A spring ritual common across the United States is opening day trout season.Most states except those in the deep south have trout hatcheries and stocking of streams, ponds and lakes.Fishermen gather close to the places where trout have been stocked often bringing the entire family along as well as boom boxes, stoves, chairs and other comforts.With this in mind I tried my luck at Beaver Creek in Maryland on 4/18/09.Little did I know that already there was a crowd there by 7:00 AM.At least... continue reading
I love music festivals; people, music, fun. I took my small A200 with a very compact 50mm prime lens and went out shooting in the crowd. I saw some pro photographers, with huge cameras and huge lenses hanging around with a press pass where I could not get access, so I tried to take some "different" shots and, more, enjoy the music and the people. Shooting news based images can be quite challenging, especially if they are sports or religion related events that are having thousands of people attending or participating. How the hell is one gonna get model release for all that. There are sponsor logos, police to take care of the situation by keeping the crowd under control and many more people like vendors making their business selling goodies. Living in Washington D.C. gives me the opportunity to attend many protests most notably the protest against immigration laws enacted to deport illegal aliens.So how does one take photos without requiring model releases from the crowd?The best way is to shoot from behind so that no one is recognizable.Otherwise you can shoot just one person from the front and try to get a release.Some photographers just shoot the protest sign eliminating the crowd by pointing their camera upwards.Be sure... continue reading
