Beauty in Danger

This is a rule of the universe is, "where there is beauty, there is a danger".St. Martin's Island is a small and beautiful coral island in the northeastern part of the Bay of Bangal. The local name is "Chera Dip". There is lots ofQuicksand, so a little bit carelessness can call the death.     continue reading

Getting the shot

Sometimes, being a photographer can be exhausting. We all push ourselves. Some mornings, it's worth being awake before anyone else... Sunrises and sunsets can be cliche or exotic.Look for the angle nobody else is shooting, carry a wide, a macro, and a telephoto at all times. To get this sunrise, I was walking though 300 yards of soft freshly plowed cotton field, my feet sank deep into the soft Mississippi soil with every step. As I was trying to get closer to the tree, I was running as best... continue reading

What's up with Lightning?

When I was about five years old I was at home with my mom and two sisters. There was a terrible thunderstorm and the lightning was almost constant. All of us were in the living room looking out the front window watching the storm when a flash of light came out of the fireplace, went across the living room and hit the phone, causing it to ring once. I said, “Wow, lightning came down the chimney and hit the phone.” Mom said, “Everyone move into the dining room and away from the fireplace.... continue reading

The Amazon is in serious danger

The Amazon is in serious danger because one of the two chambers of the Brazilian parliament has decided to bin the laws currently protecting the forest. Congress has voted to remove the legal bulwarks protecting the Amazon rain forest from stripping by livestock farmers and large property owners. The atmosphere in the Amazon area of Brazil is also becoming increasingly tense because the price of raw materials has spiralled, boosting land values hugely. The agricultural lobby has managed to successfully... continue reading

Alert, high risk for your battery charger!

As I experienced "on my own flesh" three weeks ago, you have to be very careful when charging your batteries with your charger and the electricity is produced with a generator. If the generator has a failure and the electricity goes off, unplug immediately your charger! As soon as the generator has been fixed and it´s motor again produces electricity the first impulse arrives with a high tension and may burn your charger, it happened to me on my last peruvian trip, I didn´t think about removing... continue reading

Photographing sharks

So, new here, I was thinking about a subject for my first blog and decided to talk a bit about sharks. Main reason is simply because the shark photos I have are some of the most popular in my portfolio, so I thought people would like to read a blog about them. So, back on topic, here are my tips about shark photography:1. Location, location, location. Yes, just like in real estate location matters a lot when you want to photograph sharks. Unfortunately, sharks are heavily fished in most parts... continue reading

The Empty Picture

I find taking pictures for stock images a rather different discipline from what I was used to.For instance I would never have taken this picture, if at all I call it a picture. It says something for sure, but it is not something that is substantial or significant, or even profound. But then this is exactly what makes a good stock photo.Or so I think. For I think a stock image is something to which other things can and are to be added, to say many different things; and as many a thing... continue reading
