Getting the shot

 Sometimes, being a photographer can be exhausting. We all push ourselves. Some mornings, it's worth being awake before anyone else... Sunrises and sunsets can be cliche or exotic.Look for the angle nobody else is shooting, carry a wide, a macro, and a telephoto at all times. To get this sunrise, I was walking though 300 yards of soft freshly plowed cotton field, my feet sank deep into the soft Mississippi soil with every step. As I was trying to get closer to the tree, I was running as best... continue reading

Second year anniversary

© Phoenixci (Help) Two years ago I started my journey into stock photography. I have made the mistake that most of us do, upload pictures that I liked and I had no understanding of what stock photography was just that I could make money.Well there is a possibility to make money with it but like in other things in life you do have to put energy into it. I remember my first upload where no images were accepted, and the second one, only 2 images out of 90 were accepted. My friend that introduced... continue reading

Falling in Love

Why photographers fall in love? And why they should?I mean it's good for them. The more often they do the better it is for their photography & better for their subjects.So am I out of my mind? Have I become an agony aunt or something?Hey! I am talking about falling inlove with the subject you are shooting. Yes,love the subject & everything will fall into place. Fame, money & self satisfaction.The other day I was shooting a Rock Star in a concert & I fell in love with his style of singing,... continue reading

My Daddy's Watch Parts

Lately Dreamstime has approved several of a series of photographs I took of my daddy's old watch parts.He passed away two and a half years ago and left behind droors full of stuff, to me it was art objects and before these tiny gears and screws and other parts become clocks I thought I'd turn them into another type of art.Photographs.My daddy was very proud of me.Not so much for my life's "successes" but for my undying will to create.Even with pain levels that never go below 7, I continue... continue reading

When do you call yourself a professional?

I have been shooting photographs for over twenty years. For most of that time I was a film photographer developing my own photos using a darkroom. The cost to produce images worth selling is astronomical and creating a high quality image worth selling is extremely time consuming. Therefore, I never was able to sell images. With the advent of the digital age came cameras that can produce high quality images in a fraction of the time and at a fraction of the cost. Now I can sell my images digitally... continue reading

Camera = Public Safety?

For the sake of this story, there are two things you need to know about me.• I take my camera everywhere I go• While I wish photography was my day job – it isn’tRecently, I noticed that my Nikon’s CCD was dirtier than a college dorm room.Since I no longer had the desire to remove copious amounts of dust from my shots in post production, I decided that my camera deserved a respite from the daily routine.After all, what’s a few days?I’ve been dragging that camera around... continue reading

Starting in a rush

So, the rush is on.Our goal? 750 quality images up and running by the end of April.We are currently at 250.The initial thought was to just flood with the images we already have, we definitely have a good 400 in our "Secondary Submission" folder.But, that's just it, they are secondary. Not quite as bold as what I chose for our first round.The math works out to about 125 images a week. 125 images a week!! A staggering amount, and one that I was curious to see if he could meet.And with great... continue reading
