Today is my husband’s birthday. As we are lucky enough to live close to the New Forest, an obvious way to celebrate a summer birthday is to go for lunch at one of the many pleasing hostelries there, followed by a stroll in the sunshine, and finishing up with a cream tea to replace all that lost energy. Or, as was the case today, to do all this in cloudy weather. Regardless of the famous British weather though, the New Forest is a beautiful location for me to drop into from time to time... continue reading

I spend a lot of time outdoors photographing. Sometimes driving for over an hour, then hiking deep into the forest to find that special image that every art director will want to buy (or at least that is my hope!).Lately, though, time and weather have not been cooperating with me.Because of this, I have found that I have been overlooking a treasure in my own backyard.Siting on my deck one evening I noticed all the activity on and around my deck.I grabbed my camera and started shooting.... continue reading

I visited Thailand in 2012. I spent 1 week in Koh Samui and one week on Koh Phangan. It is hardly necessary to say that Thailand for a European is very exotic country. Exotics is everywhere in the country even the airport of Koh Samui is the most unusual airport which I have ever seen. It is a pity that I was too tired to shoot. Still, the biggest impression made on me an endless ocean. Samui island is famous for its Safari Park where you can see animals so close that you can touch them... continue reading
hi folksWell sometimes it just happens. It would frighten me to add up the hours i have spent sitting in wet, damp, dark, smelly hides and come home with nothing. Then out of nowhere you get this There i was driving merrily along the road in the countryside close to home keeping an eye open for anything worth stopping to take a picture of.The odd cow, a few sheep, couple of horses nothing to get excited about then WOW i braked so hard i almost put myself through the windscreen when... continue reading
What is especially neat about shooting this photo, is that deer are quite prevalent all over the UCSC campus. I enjoyed having a wonderful opportunity to visit my husband's Alma Mater, and took a generous amount of photos of the campus and of any wildlife that were present. This deer in particular, let me get especially close to her and, having not been on the UC Santa Cruz campus in ages, it was a delight for me to make great use of photo opportunities of wildlife amongst students walking around.... continue reading
On the hunt ...Recently I was in a deep forest to hunt wild animals. But I was not shooting any animals, but new images. I went to the woods before daylight and waited for the sunrise and the first warm morning rays that attract animals to heat. And waited and waited ... and then I saw them come into the clearing. I was hidden behind a small bush and quietly pulling the trigger on my camera ...Gradually, the... continue reading

When I shot this photo, conditions were quite poor. Light was low, it even started to rain. The deer is in an enclosure. Luckily there is no fence in the photo. I have an old but very decent Nikon Zoom (80 ... 200 mm, 2.8 the whole range, but without VR) which I used at a focal length of 200 mm and an aperture of 2.8. My arms rested on top of the fence just to avoid any move of the camera (I had no tripod with me). My body height (1.80 m) was barely enough for the height of the fence, I had to stay... continue reading
Southeast England in the grip of an icy autumn can be a photographer's dream come true - preferably when the sun shines, which it seems to do a fair bit in September and October these days, certainly more than it does in summer!I've noticed over the past five years or so that late October usually brings together a combination of factors that would make superb photo opportunities in their own right. The trees turn various shades of yellow, red and orange. The sun invariably shines, although it... continue reading
