Defining Or Redefining Model Image

I wish to congratulate Seattle model Serjski on her first image sale through other channels! As some of you may know, individual image sales are not lucrative earnings for the most part, but every sale counts. Beyond the sales, here is what I really enjoy.I’ve worked with many models who do not fall into the stereotypical model “look.” If I had a sale for every model who has expressed their desire to find their niche in this extremely competitive arena only to be told they do not... continue reading

Today, I celebrate my 400 mark with some editorial photos that brought me to this point.Dancing around the world.I enjoy taking photos of people dancing.I love the movement and facial expressions.I took all of these photos at the Holiday Folk Fair International in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.I am posting some of the adult dancers, but have many of the youth dances in my portfolio as well.It is an exciting event that happens every year in November. The Ukranians are always some of my... continue reading

Travels around Asia Increasing the diversity of a portfolio

While in the past I have written blogs that help provide some thought provoking subjects to help the photographer look at things differently or to offer an engaging topic, this time, however, my article will look at the beauty and uniqueness of Asia. For those in the western world who have not been to Asia, each country is quite unique in their food, culture, people and architecture. The one commonality between them is these cultures and countries are different from the West. While some can say... continue reading

Kenyan Masai Tribe

In 2011 I visited Kenya and a Masai tribe in the Natural Park in Masai Mara. Their buildings, made of mud and branches, are in a circular fence. Out of this fence there is a little corral for cows. They are agriculturists and breeders and, if there is not famine, they are self-sufficient. They wear colorful clothes and and a lot of necklaces and bracelets made of colored beads. When we arrived we were welcomed by the men of the tribe who danced a welcome rhythmic dance out of the fence.... continue reading

A question re content...need your opinion please.

I have a question to anyone who has an opinion please.Out of my 162 uploads, only 44 of them DON'T have people in them.(they all have model releases attached). How are people pictures selling, or should I add more diversity of places, or things to my portfolio?I currently have 26 different models so they are not all of the same person, or "kind" of persons. (altho most of them are of children)Are there contributors that only submit pictures with people?I would love to hear what kind of... continue reading

Surviving Ups and Downs of Microstock

In life, things can go up and down. Just like any market, sales in microstock comes and goes too. Over time, I think you can see patterns and trends here and there. Those that are here from the beginning will have a lot more insights. This article is to offer some bit of cheer if you are experiencing a bit of a slum or just feeling down.Portfolio Diversity and VolumeIn the long run, this will certainly helps in maintaining continuous sales. There are many people here who's portfolio I am simply... continue reading

Diversity at last...

I have spent all winter working on shot indoors at playing with some ideas as well as churning out lots of shots that have probably been done a thousand times, but it has been a great learning process. However I have been jonesing for a while to add something different to my portfolio and spring seems to have finally arrived and I will be getting on with my real life rather than spending time with my camera. As a small holder I produce somewhere in the region of 80% of all the food... continue reading

The key to success is diversity

I have only been with DT for a sort time and I only have 47 images online but I fell like I have had very good success for a beginner with 12 sales so far. Most of my sales came when I had a lot less images on line, about 35.With so few images I think that my diversity of images is what has given me the sales I have so far.I see some contributors like to specialize in certain types of images but that will limit your ability to sell photos to a wide variety of designers as designers are... continue reading
