Most e-book authors are not rich and famous and need their covers to attract readers. A cover design must give a clue to the content without giving away something the author wants the readers to discover in the reading process. I avoid artsy-fartsy modeling poses. I pick key character traits of the hero and examine hundreds of pictures looking for one that will motivate a reader to buy because the photo depicts that core of the person the reader will find in the story. I want photos that show the... continue reading

Some time ago I upgraded to full frame. I traded my excellent Nikon D7000 for a brand new D610. I have also replaced the standard zoom Tamron 17-55 f/2.8 with its bigger brother 24-70 f/2.8 for full frame. All was OK, I was extremely satisfied with the move. But besides the increase in photo quality, the process created a significant increase in weight. Now, with all the lenses and accessories, my bag has a glorious 6 kg in weight. I have no real problem with that since I am convinced that if... continue reading

If you follow my blogs and forum posts, you know I've long been a fan of the Micro Four Thirds system.I'm a firm believer that for most photos or end uses we have reached a point where full frame cameras are an unnecessary expense (each to their own, of course!).I've been putting my Canon dSLR and micro four thirds bodies to the test over the last few months and they come out very close. There were a few things keeping me from fully committing, however. The Olympus E-M5, released in the last... continue reading

About a year ago, I decided to take close up photos of individual scrabble tiles and key board keys. After isolating them, I arranged them into words and submitted them to DT. I then thought to use my own work to “sign” my out going e-mails.It is a unique way to “be different” when sending greetings, well wishes, proposals, etc. Adding my photographic work to my e-mails has shown me yet another way to stand out and be recognized. Try it, it works. continue reading
