Reflections on a photo contest...just days after US election

I've never won a photo contest--until just this week. Just days after Obama won a second term.It was an open contest put on by a local business group: you post a set of twelve pictures on Facebook and the ones with the most votes during a set period gets into a calendar (plus 15% of the sales of that calendar). It seems like an all right deal, except there was not a panel of judges and anyone could vote on the photographs so whoever could get the most people to vote for their photos could... continue reading

The Day After Today

Big day in USA!People are voting for their new president. They had a long term campaign, big natural disasters, and still facing this economic crisis.Even so, I'm pretty sure, there will be a consistent presence to vote.Who'll be the next? And what new will he bring to the table? Will the people be more happy or will they struggle more? Will there be more jobs for the men and women? Will the postman bring the good or bad news? Or will the old people get better care and medical insurance?... continue reading

After the Election...Christmas!

It's been a long election season here in the USA.Now election day is here and I'll be relieved when its over even if it takes days to count up the votes. It seems to have a strangle hold on the country's ability to think about anything else.No doubt retailers are ready for the public to stop concentrating on the election and start thinking about buying Christmas presents. With the constant negative ads speaking about gloom and doom in the economy its bound to put a drag on spending - despite... continue reading

It's the economy stupid!

I made these images with the U.S. election season in mind and the state of the struggling economy.Whether you're skiddish about the stock market, investments or your retirementaccount or if you're a fat cat with money stored in hidden offshore accounts, the idea of hiding money under the mattress or in the backyard certainly has occurred to a few people. continue reading

Outsider wins at 25 / 1.

I just checked the Dreamstimedatabase and found Nick Clegg was quoted at 25 to 1 in the most recent British General Election. The other image provided by my search was of the House of Commons, the British Parliament in London. So there was no picture of Nick Clegg who became Deputy Prime Minister as a result of the formation of a Coalition Government made up of Conservatives and Liberal Democrats.I have until now had little time for flash photography but upon receiving an invitation to a... continue reading

The UK Election.

For months I have been trying to build up a portfolio of images related to the Westminster Parliament in London in preparation for the election in May.I am very politically minded because I don't want the party which landed us in the present crisis to hoodwink the public into believing it is best placed to dig us out of the financial hole.Rising debt means we like the Greeks are all poorer and after the election taxes and prices will rise rapidly on everybody in work.So which is ever government... continue reading
