In my last article, “Documenting History and Amplifying Voices" I reflected on the excitement of documenting and disseminating current events through editorial photography. Yet, as I was choosing the photos to accompany the article I started to ask myself, "Am I putting myself in danger when seeking those supercharged, raw and real emotions?"As I said before, maybe it's the actress in me, but what I most love about editorial photography is capturing heightened, uncensored emotions.... continue reading

The irrational fear of Friday the 13th is so well know it has even been given it’s own scientific name – paraskevidekatriaphobia (which never fails to invoke my irrational fear of spelling). And while we all know that Friday the 13th is an “unlucky day”, have you ever asked yourself why?Or ever done a deep dive into a few other common unlucky superstitions you may have held over the years?Well, here is your chance to explore the meaning and symbolism behind 13 unlucky superstitions we... continue reading
What, at the time, seemed like every single day, my 8th Grade teacher would ask, "What did John Dewey say?”And we’d all reply, in unison, “You learn what you do!”Well, today I congratulate myself on 1000 uploads. I know. I know I said uploads and not sales but still, it’s a victory... at least to me. My acceptance ratio dipped pretty low at one point, but I’d like to think that as my acceptance ratio improves so does my photography. However, I still have images get... continue reading

Hello. Here I am writing a new blog about a fear that I recently discovered. One of my fears I never knew it's there. Sometimes, when I just wander the street of my city I observed a lot of people doing different things, getting excited about something, being sad about something, being concentrated to something and so on... a lot of situations I wanted to take a photo to - guess what - I never took a street photo. When I put my hand in the bag to grab the camera I get some cold shiver over my... continue reading
Since I was little girl, my parents took my sister and I on regular camping trips to the Addo Elephant National Park in the Eastern Province, South Africa. My dad volunteered as a ranger, which meant that he had to be on duty every other weekend to make sure that all the guests visiting the national park were behaving accordingly. Alas, this was not always the case... People were often found wondering outside their vehicles in areas where this was – and still is – prohibited! This basically means... continue reading

Courage:I have a lot of soldiers that I am responsible for, so I hear and see a lot of human strengths and shortcomings. One thing that I have noticed is their capacity to get back up no matter how many times they may fall. What relevance does this have to you? Courage is something that I think defines and separates the strong from the weak.Courage is something that I know in my heart is something we are all born with. It is something that dwells within all of us. How we deal... continue reading
I by my own admission am not a very trusting soul. And I have a small authority problem, but I'm not on meds for any thing so I think I'm o.k.The problem I'm having is that I don't like the idea of any person or government telling me what I need to inject into my body. I also like to make my own decisions as to what gets put into my childrens body.Of course I realize the importance of keeping disease under control but where is that limit?I remember not long ago the government wanted all... continue reading
