Wait on it!

Monday, 10:35 AM - As I came up to the pond where I regularly go birding, this gorgeous Great Blue Heron was perched upon a duck breeding box at the far end of the pond. Normally, he is too skittish to sit out on the open pond so close to buildings. I knew he probably wouldn’t sit there long, and if I was patient, I might get a flight shot as he took to the air. My hope was that when this heron left his perch, he’d fly to a nearby pond behind me. So I positioned myself in the shade right in the... continue reading

One year ago...

Today I felt as if my life had come full circle and it was time to start a new beginning. This morning I checked to see what photos I sold, and saw that one was of Chicago's O'Hare Airport. It was exactly one year ago when I took that shot. I was tired and jet legged from my flight from Istanbul. Not only that but it was cold and coming back to North America always is a slight culture shock. My flight back to Calgary (and then my city)had been delayed, at first by one hour, then two and three and... continue reading

Capturing birds in flight.

One huge challenge for Nature photographers is to capture birds in flight.A lot of it is luck because to some extent you have to have the birds play the game before you can get the shot. That being said you can create the best possible scenario for you to have the best advantage. If possible I prefer to have the sun at my back, or over my shoulder. This makes for a real nice photo because the wings spread highlighted feathers have a great look, especially on white birds.Obviously... continue reading
