DO YOUR HOMEWORKIf you're going to a specific location or venue, do your homework before arriving at your final destination. Are there any restrictions on photography and equipment? What access is there to the location? Is a permit required?Let's discuss a few examples. The United States White House has tours almost daily but you're not allowed to bring in large cameras. Point and shoot cameras are OK. Sporting events have restrictions on cameras and photography. Some stadiums do not... continue reading

When did Black Friday become Grey Thursday?Traditionally we started our Christmas shopping on the day after Thanksgiving – causing retailers balance sheets to turn into the black and spawning the origins of the name Black Friday. But then stores started opening early, then earlier, and then really early. Then people started sleeping outside stores to be first in line. Then things went from bad to worse when stores decided to open at midnight on Thanksgiving night. And now the opening... continue reading
Apparently every American has Martha Stewart on speed dial.At least that’s the impression you get when you look at holiday stock images.Just search keywords like Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Dinner or Holiday Traditions. The images that are returned are all a mélange of smiling, happy families sitting down to beautifully set dinner tables with a perfectly cooked meal. I don’t know about you, but that’s not exactly how thing go down at my house.Do we always have a great meal... continue reading
It is so easy in this hectic world to forget to stop occasionally and look outside ourselves for ways to give our fellow man a hand up every now and then.Since 1992, the fourth Saturday of October has been set aside as a National Day of Service meant to encourage average Americans to commit this one-day out of their lives to helping others.Make a Difference Day will be observed on October 28th this year. And while service can be done by anyone at anytime, having... continue reading
There could be many reasons why we are here. I can assure you many are here because they desire to sell their photographs and make some extra cash.Having joined with that good intention, the reality on the ground is not what you initially envisaged. Sales are low. Not only low, they are frustrating. And you may be thinking what’s going on?I can bet you, you are not alone. One fact we all agree and which we need to remind ourselves is that Dreamstime LLC does not buy images. It’s... continue reading
Last week I "met" with a herd of konik horses in a winter landscape. The herd walked at sunrise along a frozen lake in park "Oostvaardersveld" in Flevoland (The Netherlands). The horses walk free in nature and like being photographed when you don't bother them.I was fortunate that Dreamstime accepted these photos, so you also can enjoy them. continue reading
Of the five species of penguin to be found on the Falkland Islands, my favourite is the beautiful King Penguin. The main colony is at Volunteer Point on East Falkland, about 2-3 hours drive from the capital, Stanley. The colony is in good health and numbers are increasing. I understand there are now around 1,000 pairs and chicks. King Penguins have an 18 month breeding cycle, which means they are present all year around. The chicks stay on land during the cold subantarctic... continue reading
It's International Women's Day and I'm proud to say that I have been fortunate enough to participate. As a woman, and one with a visual disability, I have proven success to myself and others. I hope I can be inspirational to others who might be struggling and unsure of their abilities, to push forward if it's what you truly want.As of today I have 1155 images for sale on Dreamstime and have sold 171 of them. Although that may not seem like grandiose numbers, when I began this pursuit, (and my greeting... continue reading
No doubt Pope Francis is the center of attention right now.I was fortunate enough to see the pope in Washington DC on 9/23/15 at D Street as well as Constitution Avenue as he made his way around the Ellipse. This is probably the biggest event to happen in Washington DC in a long time and not likely to happen again for many years.Big crowds assembled at the only non ticketed event to see the Pope. After a wait of about an hour or better the Pope finally arrived on D Street next to DAR Constitution... continue reading
hi folksDecided to try and broaden my portfolio and after a lot of thought (and rejections) decided to try images of architecture around my local area.I hoped that this would open new avenues of photography and appeal to a wider audience of views and sales.I was delighted to get my first one accepted (first time) so hopefully this genre will provide the gateway to increasing my portfolio, broadening the subject matter and of my library and hopefully something that will be acceptable to DT... continue reading
