Don't Let Pixel Envy Drag You Down

One of my favourite photos:It’s an unfinished marble statue of a nude female torso, standing outdoors near the waterfront in Naxos, a Cycladic Greek Island. It’s particularly pleasing to me for many reasons, and not because it just sold for the 4th time. It’s an astonishing work of art in this unfinished state. Maybe the sculptor had a fight with his model, went home for a souvlaki and coffee, and never came back. Whatever, I’m glad he didn’t.It also reminds me of holidaying on Naxos, one... continue reading

First touch with new full frame DSLR Nikon D850

Dear Dreamstimers,I would like to share my experience with new full frame flaghsip from Nikon, model D850. To be honest, full frame isn't my "weapon of choice" due to its price level, weight and size - and it counts lenses also. As almost everyday user of APS-C format DSLR and occasional user of Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras i was of course curious where full format is heading. I mentioned tough battle between APS-C and Micro Four Thirds in my previous blog about new mirrorless flagship... continue reading

Camera, slow-motion, frame rates, flickering

When shooting high speed over 100fps with tungsten lamps we sometimes have problems with flickering light in the shot. The solution is to use more powerful lamps for slow motion. For example use a 5Kw lamp instead of a pair or three 1Kw lamps.   continue reading

Older Technology Is Very Affordable - But Is It Worth It?

In times past i've bought older technology because it was at a more reasonable price.Way back when I was young and single it was never the issue; but family costs come first. I started my DSLR and stock photography images using a Canon 400D which I purchased at a very reasonable price..This Canon gave me an introduction to DSLR and I enjoyed using it. I wanted something a bit more up to date and managed to get a store demo model of a Panasonic G6(before the G7); again at a very reasonable... continue reading

Hello Dreamstime - I'm here to learn and earn

I just wanted to say hi everyone. I'm quite new to this whole stock photo thing but I'm looking to hit it running.I've always enjoyed taking photos; one of my proud moments was buying my first 35mm SLR. Not log after that; in the late 90's; I got my first digital camera, a 1.33MP Casio. I thought it was fantastic that I could take an image; then review and delete if no good.. Though I remember that the 4xAA batteries did not last more that 100 images.Since then I had many point and shoot cameras... continue reading

Video frame rate

Frame rate – is often the reason of strobe motion on air of small local television companies. At the same time, frame rate is wonderful option to play with, when you need more accurate slow motion (in wedding footage, for example). Most of video editing software provide the opportunity to modify the rate and choose any other dimension instead of what was in a source. By changing numbers to the lower side (for ex. from 60fps to 23,976fps), you’ll get wonderfully slowed video. If you... continue reading
