Rites of Passage

Life is a series of events that mark our passage through time. Some events are as unremarkable as a Grandfather teaching his grandson how to swim or parents looking on as their child takes its first step. Other occasions such as traditional religious events or advancement at school or a job require celebration. Images that catch these moments become iconic photos that celebrate family milestones, relationships or rites of passage. They evoke positive emotions that advertisers use to build familiarity... continue reading

Improving Photography Skills Through Dreamstime

This is my first foray into writing a blog for Dreamstime....I've been a contributor to Dreamstime for some time, starting back when there were less than 1 million images online (seems like ages ago!).At the time, I had discovered the Dreamstime site while looking for inexpensive, quality stock images, thenlater decided to try my hand at contributing a few myself.   At first, I submitted a few vacation photographs, captured with a little "point and shoot" camera (which... continue reading

Go back to start

Dear Dreamstime contributors and designers,It's been a while since I wrote a blog.Everything in my life crumbled apart piece by piece during 2015:April 2015 I dislocated and broke both of my shoulder simultaneous during powerlifting (one of my passions). This meant I had to stop training for two months, and it will take about a year or two before I am back on track strength wise.In in october my team manager at work stepped aside, and did everything for me to succeed her. A few years back... continue reading

Growing Model

My new model at 10 weeks old, a cute fluffy buddle of fun. Now he is 15 months old, still cute (well I think so) much bigger and still a lot of fun. Had hoped to get several images of him online but so difficult to capture him as he is always moving plus not all of my images are suitable stock photos and there are just so many already out there.  He loves chasing bubbles and was pleased to capture this one and it be accepted too. Will have to follow him around with my camera in hand more. Helpful... continue reading

Microstock Photography – The Winning Strategies, part I

Above is a catchy title that most stock photography veterans would raise an eyebrow at. Is there really a winning strategy? Not really. Or maybe there is. It depends largely on your expectations and definition of “winning”. This article has been compiled keeping the new players in mind and “winning” refers to a significant growth in popularity and sales. As can be easily predicted these days, the major part of the strategy is off-camera and online. While your potential clients and opportunities... continue reading

Trapped inside: How cabin fever caused me to expand my photography

With snow and extreme cold weather still pummeling the Northeast, there is not much to do but stay inside these days.Unfortunately, this prevents me from photographing one of my favorite subjects -- landscape and nature (as saturated as it is in microstock, I know!)As an amateur photographer, primarily to microstock, this has allowed me to explore areas of photography I am less familiar with and spend less time photographing. It has allowed me to appreciate the beauty of things around... continue reading

New on Dreamstime

Hey everyone, I just wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself; my name is Sam and I live in Dubai. Love to travel and explore and I have always loved documenting my journeys! Having a big database of pictures I thought that doing something with my photography would be the logical next step and stock photos seemed to be perfect! Full of confidence I started my first upload… and it is harder than I thought! Pictures being rejected for lighting or lens quality had me baffled at first but... continue reading
