Happy Halloween

It's time to get out and shoot some Halloween photos if you haven't already. I'm heading to the farmer's market tomorrow to get some pumpkins, gourds, Indian corn and mums, and planning some shoots for next week on my friend Sarah's front porch. Her house was built in the 1700's - really old in this neck of the woods. I thought I 'd share some of my older work both for Halloween and the fall season here just because as photographers, graphic artists and designers we love taking, manipulating and drawing... continue reading

Halloween 2012 in Inverness Scotland.

Yesterday was Halloween so its surprising that this morning I already have images on Dreamstime. It came about because Highland Council arranged entertainment on Ness Islands for the evenings on Friday and Saturday 26th and 27th October. This was a brave decision because at this time of year, the islands situated in the middle of the River Ness can be flooded and / or underwater. The illuminated islands are reached by a bridge across the river and have many large trees. The tradition of Halloween... continue reading

One of my favorite seasons is coming up.Fall with its country fairs, crisp air, colorful leaves and of course Halloween.Halloween has become the second largest celebration of year in America, after Christmas. Each year Americans spend more and more on decorations, costumes, food, parties, candy even trips to celebrate this spooky, creepy time of year. This year spending on the holiday up 9 percent to $6.86 billion! As soon as the back to school sales are over, store and vendors quickly... continue reading

Thinking ahead...Halloween, Thanksgiving and even Christmas?

It seems like the summer season has just begun - cookouts, swimming, hiking, theme parks, gardening, vacations and just relaxing.Summer is here perhaps in our reality but for designers most are already working on fall and winter themes. One tip off was a recent trip to a craft store this past weekend found that they had Thanksgiving fabric and craft supplies out already! Now when do you think those products were designed?Probably a year and half before their intended use. Some recent sales... continue reading

BOOO! Happy Halloween !!!

HalloweenHistorian Nicholas Rogers, exploring the origins of Halloween, notes that while "some folklorists have detected its origins in the Roman feast of Pomona, the goddess of fruits and seeds, or in the festival of the dead called Parentalia, it is more typically linked to the Celtic festival of Samhain (pronounced sow-an or sow-in)", derived from the Old Irish Samuin meaning "summer's end". Samhain was the first and by far the most important of the four quarter days in the medieval Irish calendar... continue reading
