Four years of DSLR photography and still counting...

Dear Readers,I am newbie in Dreamstime. I joined around two weeks or so ago. Currently four photographs of mine had been accepted and another one is in review.I have been using a Nikon D3000 with the kit lens since December 2011. I am an amateur photographer at the moment. Sadly I have not upgraded my DSLR as well as my lens due to financial constraints. Nevertheless I am still able to click some good photos every now and then. Right now I am thinking of getting a Nikon 50mm f/1.8G along with... continue reading

That perfect reflection

Sometimes you get lucky enough to find the perfect photo spot, one of those moments you have only ever seen in magazines. I was lucky enough to find this spot in Switzerland. For the perfect water reflection photo, you need beautiful scenery, and a glass-like surface. This glass-like surface is incredibly difficult to find, you need a breeze-less day, and a protected body of water that will not succumb to the elements. That is what I found here. However, these two factors can provide the perfect... continue reading

HDR Photography - Tips

Love HDR photography? I agree it is interesting. But are you doing it the "professional" way? It is not always easy to get HDR photos perfect because of little things we often ignore. Here is the quick list you must scan through mentally every time you're out for that perfect HDR photo:1. Whenever possible, use Aperture Priority mode and set bracketing to +-2 of the normal 0EV. You can always take 5 shots at -2,-1,0,1,2 EV but it uses more processing time, creates a mess and produces the same... continue reading

HDR Cookbook, how to and Topaz Labs

I heard about HDR, High Dynamic Range while at a seminar. Some photographers favoured this technique, while others didn't.I like HDR more for the creative scene than for general photography and decided to give it a try.I bought Photomatix and my first few attempts were terrible.I mean it was hard to look at the photos after.I tried different tools in the program and no matter how I tried I just made a complete mess.I left the HDR adventure for awhile and while on Facebook I came across... continue reading

When modern, digital HDR photography hit the scene a few years back, it quickly became all the rage. It was now an easy prospect to capture gorgeous sky-scapes and dramatic still life images; balanced lighting was not just the arena of the pro.But is it just me, or has it gone way too far? I am really getting tired of HDR these days... so many photos look "over-Photoshopped" and lose any veracity, in my opinion. What happened to capturing an image they way it actually appeared? Is there going... continue reading

2011 in review

It’s about one month since we have passed into the New Year. 2011 was the best year yet on Dreamstime, and I will soon celebrate 8 years of collaboration. The growth was overall below my expectation on the beginning of the year, but it is still there despite the many economic problems our world is facing.Image productionI have closed the year a little under the production target for 2011 – 113/120. 95% of them were accepted by Dreamstime (107), which represent around 13% increase in portfolio... continue reading
