Thoughts on scanners?

So I literally have thousands of slides. These were primarily taken from the early 80s to late 90s but I still generally have a roll loaded up into one of my heavyweight Nikons. While the vast majority of these slides represent my really early work, I do wish to keep them and there are one or two in there that I like. Also, revisiting this work after all these years might prove interesting.I've been thinking about film scanners.I know there's a bit of a debate out there about whether a dedicated... continue reading

World AIDS Day

HIV/AIDS is one of the leading killers of adults worldwide. The virus weakens the immune system and ultimately leads to death.HIV transmission can occur in three ways: (i) sexual intercourse; (ii) exposure to infected blood; or (iii) mother to child transmission through birth or breast milk.Sexual transmission is the primary transmission mechanism worldwide, and accounts for more than 90% of infections in sub-Saharan Africa.Condoms can prevent infection by reducing the likelihood... continue reading

From the archive

I often make collages from my old photos. Sometimes i assemble giant patterns from hundreds of different images. Sometimes they are quite simple.Sometimes i return to my previous work and remake the old photos in a new way. As i've already said, it is quite a challenge to instantly define the right way to manipulate the photo for the best look. Only after a while it is possible to realize what should be done for the shoot to look perfect. continue reading

How I keep my digital files organized

I think this is a good subject to blog about. Capturing a photo these days is very cheap, all it takes is to press the button and a new photo is born. Due to this ease and low cost, the amount of files just keeps piling up.Having your files safe and well organized is very important. Not being able to find a file in short time means not having it when you need it. You practically lost it even if it is there hiding in some directory. Here is what I do:I have a separate disk 1 TB connected... continue reading

Our Heritage in Photos

Now that I am in my 50s, I have years and years of photos and negatives in chronological order. If I ever want to find a particular photo, I can easily go back and find it.I mention this because it has LONG been a source of sadness to me when I go into an antique store and find scores of beautiful old photographs that obviously cost someone some money back in their years and the family (descendants) do not know where or who their ancestors were.I sometimes purchase these old photos to use as... continue reading
