For me photography is about capturing memories;maybe family occasions, special places, stunning colours, shapes, dew drops on leaves, sunsets, sunrises, old buildings or just the unusual. Every photograph or image is a memory of some sort; whether it captures a special moment in time, a pattern or shape or stunning colour, even a feeling. My preferences are animals and nature but I always prefer a natural look whatever the image. I do dabble with editing sometimes, but a forced or mega... continue reading

As photographers we walk about looking at the world from a more artistic point of view.As stock photographers our view can be more varied. We see possibilities in scenes that most photographers pass by without a second glance. The problem is most of us look at our visions from one point of view...eye level.I have been guilty of this more thank I care to admit to. What if we try looking at things from a different perspective? Change our point of view. Both of these images were... continue reading
The worlds I'm seeing with my mind's alien eyes - reflections of my imagination about the possibilities in our vast Universe. In both observable and unknown parts - perhaps in other dimensions. Where life took different shapes and forms. Blended with planet's nature and civilization's mind bending technologies. And the endless paths to the most distant horizons. Thinking and day dreaming about all these is one of the greatest... continue reading

Two years ago I moved into the house where I currently live and it's a place on the edge of the metropolitan area. Here the subdivisions crash into farmland so you get a mix of neighborhoods and fields corn, depending on which street you're on. I like to go for walks, mainly just to stay healthy, but I find the walks have a way of giving the brain a chance to work through the the problems of the day or to just wander. If I have the time I will walk for four miles, which takes about an hour. The halfway... continue reading
I am not the first or the last to finally get my first image accepted on an assignment, but WOW what a fantastic feeling, overjoyed.I was letting myself get down with rejections and then I thought besides the images I was submitting what was I doing wrong.Number 1 read and re-read Tangie's new assignment messageas in the latest one "All in White"......what I did was focus on the word white without really reading the request, big mistake. So I uploaded some images which were rejected... continue reading
The image you see here in my blog is my second Editor's Choice. Creating it was actually very simple and it may be of interest for the amateur stock photographer in how it was done. There are three layers in the image. (1) The dungeon cell (2) Man in wheelchair (3) The color black. The dungeon was shot while on vacation and touring through a medieval structure in the Middle East. When I saw that room I knew it had potential for SOMETHING though I had no idea for what. I snapped the picture and... continue reading
Imagination and OriginalityAs the stock industry over-saturates itself with the same types of images and concepts, it will be key to come up with new ideas in order to stand out and maximize portfolio potential. Using your imagination to produce original ideas is therefore an important part in your stock career.Sure, it's easy to say "use your imagination and be original." But it's the difference between being a trendsetter or someone who's behind the curve and always playing catch-up.... continue reading
I have a home studio, it is set up in my garage, I have gradually built up my gear.I started off using my camera flash on a remote trigger mounted on my tripod, a secondary flash set on "slave". To give differing lighting set ups.My full time job as an engineer meant I could make mounting brackets to hold umbrellas, as well as supports to hold backdrops. These were 96" wide (double width bolt) lengths of black fabric from a local shop.I also aquired the end of a roll of 2.5m white clay-coated... continue reading
