King Penguins of the Falkland Islands

Of the five species of penguin to be found on the Falkland Islands, my favourite is the beautiful King Penguin.  The main colony is at Volunteer Point on East Falkland, about 2-3 hours drive from the capital, Stanley. The colony is in good health and numbers are increasing. I understand there are now around 1,000 pairs and chicks.  King Penguins have an 18 month breeding cycle, which means they are present all year around. The chicks stay on land during the... continue reading

New Guinea and Solomon Islands

I'm travelling a lot, but my last journey to Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands was very special. To see the joy of living with creative music instruments, dances and handmade costumes from kids up to old people is a personal gain for me. Words can't describe in details, but I hope pictures can. If you like, you can see the complete photos or more images in my collection "Pacific Islands - South Pacific Ocean"                                    ... continue reading

The beautiful small islands of Greece

Having just returned from a wonderful two week holiday on the small Greek island of Paxos (images coming soon) I thought I would share some images from the various islands I have visited and photographed over the last few years. What is it that draws me to these islands?Certainly the hot and sunny Mediterranean weather appeals to me -such a contrast to the often cold and wet climate we have here in the UK. That said, this year I arrived in the middle of a violent storm so severe that our plane... continue reading

Edge of Paradise

Hey Dreamstimers........Anyone out there interested in off the beaten track locations? Then do I have a spot for you! Most of you have heard of Bikini Atoll - where the USA detonated numerous atomic weapons at the end of WWII. And I am here to report that the island of Bikini is still uninhabitable due to the radioactive dust that permeates the island.Anyway, we're talking about the Marshall Islands which is mid-pacific & on the equator halfway between Hawaii & Australia. Majuro is the capitol... continue reading

Dream Trip to the South Pacific

This last Spring we were able to take the trip of a lifetime to the Cook Islands in the South Pacific - and it was paid for entirely with photography money. It wasn't all stock money (not even close), but it was sports teams, High School Seniors, Family Portraits and fine art sales. It took a year of savings, but with the goal of this trip in mind, it gave us the energy to keep going. The Cook Islands is a remarkable location, poised as Hawaii was 50 years ago. They are not kidding... continue reading

Marettimo - Egadi Islands (Sicily)

The archipelago of the Egadi islands, from the Latin Aegates , is located in the western part of Sicily, opposite the stretch of coastline that stretches between Trapani and Marsala. Among the three major islands (Favignana and Levanzo other), Marettimo is the furthest from the coast. It's only about an hour by hydrofoil, starting from Trapani. From now Marettimo welcomes the traveler with all its splendor. The sun's rays projected onto the green-blue sea create infinite reflections almost hypnotic.... continue reading

Dump and Back Up!

Yeah, that sounds a little wrong, but here's the deal/lesson.My husband, teenage daughter and I recently traveled to the Cook Islands in the South Pacific.Between us we had a total of five cameras.Three were Nikon D300's, two were smaller Olympus shockproof/waterproof point-and-shoots.We also took a laptop, thumb drives and external hard drive.Every day, at some point, I would remove a memory card from a camera.I would dump it on the laptop, backing it up to an external hard drive... continue reading
