If I should make a count about Romanians' favorite ingredients or foods I would get to a very simple conclusion: meat (a lot of it, mostly pork), mamaliga (polenta), telemea (a Romanian cheese, a bit similar to feta, but better in taste - sorry Greeks, but it's true), tomatoes, fresh onion and garlic. You might think it's simple, but we, Romanians, are taking our tomatoes very seriously. Almost everybody with a garden or even a small corner in a balcony or kitchen or yard, will plant... continue reading

hi flolksA week or so ago i wrote that i was planning ahead for the winter months to find some "subjects" that could be done indoors at home during the miserable wet weather to keep the portfolio and uploads going.I am still working on that although i managed to get some ideas to mull over in the coming months, but the more pressing issue was to broaden my horizons NOW and take advantage of the better weather. You see my main photography interest is "birding" and my portfolio is exclusively... continue reading
When you are into taking photos of places, buildings and nature as I am, then a trip to Florence, Italy, or Paris, France, provides perfect photo opportunities. It would seem that you are stumbling on perfect images with every step you take. But then comes winter, travel funds are depleted and you are stuck in Jutland, the so-called dark part of Denmark - what to do? A couple of years ago I heard a photographer explain that to be a good photographer you should be able to... continue reading
Oxford's Botanic Garden was founded in 1621 with a mission "To promote the furtherance of learning and to glorify nature".The oldest tree in the Garden is an English Yew planted in 1645.Although at the time they were not planted for their medicinal properties, yew trees now provide the raw material for two important cancer drugs, paclitaxel (taxol) and docetaxel (taxotere). The magic of trees can be enjoyed in many images and also from the fact that the oldest species in the garden also offers... continue reading

One of the great things about living in Ecuador, there are lots of things to shoot - like the wild land iguanas that are everywhere. They run from mere babies of about 6 inches, to well over three feet long. Here are just some I've shot. The secret to capturing images of wild animals, at least for me, is not to start shooting right away. I hang around the area for awhile until the animals begin to get used to me being around.Lots and lots of patience. continue reading
Our family has recently renewed our attempts to improve the quality of food we eat and this includes trying to buy more local food. After watching the documentary "Food, Inc" and learning about modern farming methods (for example the fact that there are only 13 meat processing plants in the entire country now, chickens are breed to be so fat they can't stand up, cows and most livestock and most products on the store shelves are based on government subsidized corn) and my son's First Lego League... continue reading
