Cherry Blossoms And Bees

When I first began transitioning from photojournalism to what I consider my fine-art photography, I was a bit nervous that the bees swarming around me would sense my apprehension and perhaps sting me. I am highly allergic to bee stings.Eventually, after having them land all over my body and equipment, I developed a quiet "bee zen," in which I really came to love their little critters. I was often so mesmerized by them that I wouldn't even take photos for a while as I watched them.This... continue reading

The Flower Photographer of Silicon Valley

For many years as a boy and young adult, I could not be around flowers or blossoms because of the risk of severe allergy and asthma attacks. I would long for the time when I could be around flowers and blossoms and enjoy them like my Grandma Hill and everyone else.Grandma loved flowers so much, and always had something blooming in her yard in spring and summer, whether in Goleta or Freshwater, Calif., where I grew up.By my late 20s, my allergies subsided to the point where I could be around... continue reading

LOTUS

So Ive been around the world, and seen flowers from Asia, America, Europe, Africa, and the list goes on and on. I have never found a flower as cool as the Lotus! It is an accent plant that can survive thousands of years as it has the rare ability to lie in stasis or hibernation per say, and come to life many years later. Another cool fact I learned about this flower, is that is controls its flowers temperature by regulating water from the lily in an attempt to draw insect that pollinate. Bloom!

Summer blossom is peaking in our Botanic Garden that was once a Physic Garden serving the old Hospital that lay across the road from it, here in Oxford. The need to capture this explosion of colour everywhere means a lot of folk are loading up their iphones with images even as they spend quality time with their families beside the river. It feels worth taking the time out from our time outside as all too soon the petals fall and perish. continue reading
