Advice for young photographers

BY:Michael Kramber in New York10 June, 07I am writing this from the Baghdad bureau of The New York Times where I am on assignment.I have received dozens of queries from photojournalists starting out in the business. I am writing this in response, partly so I can refer others to it in the future and not spend time on lengthy replies. Some beginners ask for advice on gear, others on how to get started finding assignments and selling their work. I will describe my own path into photojournalism... continue reading

Taken 11/25/14 these folks set out to protest in the Santa Barbara streets, they did not make it on the fwy but made it to the SBPD. There were many speeches some harsh words and some that had hope and inspiration. For me i enjoyed taking pictures of new material and something i have never done before. Michael Pettigrew's World and Photography

Michael Pettigrew/Websubstance, this week's featured photographer, joined our community in February 2006 and is perhaps the perfect example of the highly selective photographer whose portfolio may be small but sells big. His favorite subjects are children: "Taking pictures of kids is my favorite. They are so spontaneous! Just like bugs pictures you can't really predict the end-result of your photo sessions". He also confesses to a passion for insect photos and according to him, there's an impressive... continue reading

25th June 2009 (26th June morning in India). I woke up due to a call at 3.30 AM in the morning. A call from my dear friend in London. She was crying. All she said was come online. By the time I went online, one more call followed from LA, from a source close to MJ who said "Mike is dead!". I couldn't believe my ears. The next thing I did was googling news for Michael Jackson and saw the news "Michael Jackson feared dead". Still I didn't believe. For me Michael Jackson is far more than King of Pop,... continue reading

Visiting London in July to see Michael Jackson

I am too excited about the recent announcements by Michael Jackson about his comeback concerts. I had missed the opportunity to see my idol live in India when he had the HIStory concerts going on, since I was a kid. My parents found it very costly and risky to send me to the concerts at that time. But then as a child as a fan by desire to see my idol live has been eating me. It started harassing me more since I entered this field of entertainment where I do my job as a singer, composer and songwriter.... continue reading
