Common illustration mistakes that you can avoid

During an illustration editor's review some mistakes are noticeably common, so here's a list of those ones which might help illustration contributors in their submissions.  Copyright - When creating any drawing, the contributor must keep in mind not to include any logo or any brand in their illustration. There are already tons of illustrations out there so there are chances that your work might also look alike ones that are already online.Jaggies - Jagged lines or edges, usually this... continue reading

Developing Your Photographic Style

What makes a famous photographer famous? It’s not the gear he uses, and it’s normally not a single image, either. Most of the greatest photographers have a certain style that makes their images immediately recognizable. Style is the reason why you can pick an Ansel Adams landscape out from a thousand others. Style makes you unique, it’s an extension of your personality and it’s what sets you apart from everyone else. What Style is NotThere are many misconceptions about... continue reading

No advice here!

Time and time again I see articles about tips and/or advice for newbies, written by... well, newbies. When I read a blog that might contain new, useful info, I check the source. I look at the author's profile page, his online files/sales ratio but most importantly at the quality of his work. And in many cases I find that they have a small portfolio, very few sales and not so great images.Which doesn't necessarily mean they're wrong about what they have to say, but after four years in the business... continue reading

Ideas with fruits and how not to take photographs

One day Jelena ran into the studio with an idea to make a photo with a couple of oranges like this one. So i made this shot. And another couple of hundreds.Sometimes this happens to me. And I don't really know how to deal with it. I work through the whole photosession up to the end and only then I realize that the camera was set on iso400. Who could have thought? However, Dreamstime accepted all of the photos despite the disastrous noises. continue reading

What kind of friend you are?!

Like all in life, we meet different kind of friends, those that are the friends we know in a moment or an occasion, by coincidence or friends of friends, other kind that we like to meet when it’s about fun & good moments, because we don’t have enough trust to share them more than that (We might call them friends of a drink)! Some friends are from the heart, those who might drop honest tears of happiness or sadness for us! But never go further for some reason! But the most important friends are... continue reading

Not making basic mistakes ... Some thoughts ...

In the absence of much time to develop my shooting style of late I have been conscientiously trying to not make basic mistakes!Basic things that I have been trying NOT to do include:Arriving somewhere with no battery (now check the battery indicator before heading out)A full CF card (no a preview and check available shots before heading out)Fumbling around looking for my lens cap (always put it in my left front pocket)Forgetting to pack my tripod head or entire tripod (general awareness)... continue reading

Inkscape: A great vector program, but some mistakes

Hello,I am using the German version of Inkscape. It is a great vector graphic program, with a lot of good features. There are different formats to save. You can create round edges, delete, submit and form pathes, there is a tool to create stars, polygons and the wonderful calligraphy tool. For Gimp users is Inkscape a little different, mainly the color section works different. At first you have to choose a form e.g. a square or an elliptical form and then you choose the color. Of course there... continue reading
