It's All There in Black and White

Advertising screams,‘We want color photos!’ and galleries yell back, ‘Only black & white matters.’ That was the past.Yes, it’s certain that color images dominate in print and web advertising and that classic photography found in galleries is more closely associated with black and white images but both genres can be found in all places. The use of B&W photography in advertising seems to ebb and flow. There was a big resurgent of its use in the 1990s and lately I’ve been hearing that... continue reading

Photographic whereabouts in California

I always liked to travel, to revisited old places and to see the change in people and nature. It’s like reading the same book and notice every time something new or just a bent page. Although I was in California many times, my camera missed some of the most important places that one can visit … Well, not this time… this time I will see them all. Yosemite National Park is one of the most spectacular places in North America, hiding in the heart of Sierra Nevada mountains, home of the highest... continue reading

My first photos with a model (in black and white)

Hello friends,I like to share with you my first ever photos with a model. I chose to process them in black and white. What do you think?  I think black-and-white is suitable for some photos where color can be a real distraction. It is good for photos with patterns and some kind of structure, or for photos that can give many kinds of gray.  There are other reasons you can find out. And still you can simply choose black and white because simply you like how it looks even you don't... continue reading

Drabble: Colour Me Beautiful

The vibrant silk kimono clashes with my Chanel red lips and nails, but I decide it doesn’t matter; certain shades of orange, like terracotta, are tonal, subtler than red. Sienna, baked clay, emits earthy, soothing warmth, and I consider trying a different lipstick.Orange, combining the energy of red and the happiness of yellow; the fruity hue suits my fair flesh and lifts my complexion. I imagine an artist whirling his brush in sunshine, dipping sable into coral, creating whorls on his palette.... continue reading

The Magic of Monotone Photos

Monotone photos are powerfully simple and convey emotion like few types of photos can. With all extraneous color eliminated, we are left only with light and shape.Add to that a single color and the image is more powerful than its individual parts. In previous posts I’ve discussed the color red and the emotions it conveys.Let’s talk about some other colors for a moment.Blue for instance, conveys cold, lonely, depressed emotions.“I’m feeling blue today,” is a popular phrase in... continue reading

My friend Mr. Monopod

If you think you are one of those people who can hold your camera still enough all the time and get good photos you need your meds changed. We all need on occasion something to help us steady up the camera to get a crystal clear shot.I never gave much thought about using a monopod and always used the trusty old tripod. But than a short time ago my wife gave me a nice monopod for a gift. It is kind of neat. It's telescopic so it can be adjusted from a couple of feet to about five and a half... continue reading

What I Bought With My First Dreamstime Earnings

I've already gotten paid a couple times now since I joined up in Draemstime back in May but at first did not have a clue what I wanted to get with the money I earned through sales.A couple of weeks ago I finally decided I really should buy my self a Monopod because the weight of my lens, body and flash has been starting to get really heavy for me when I am out taking photographs. For over 3 years now every thing has been hand held which has been fine for me but after getting the Nikon D300 I noticed... continue reading

Black and White?

I really enjoy shooting in black and white, however, I am not quite sure how well monotone images sell as stock.I have uploaded a few black and white images in the few months that I have been here and some seem to sell ok (not a great deal but a few sales).I am always reluctant to upload more though as I am not sure if designers need these kind of images.Surely they could convert any of the coloured images they buy into black and white if they needed to?I would be interested in hearing... continue reading

Moods in Monochrome
