In total, you all contributed $3,235 that Dreamstime will match for an impressive total of $6,470.As you know, the choice of charity was left up to you, and the decision is this – Doctors Without Borders / Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF), the international medical humanitarian organization will receive $6,470. It's the season for many things - picture-perfect snow falls and autumnal trees, holiday feasts with family and harvest festivals are the first things that come to mind, but everyone has their traditions and nostalgia for this time of year. Universally, it's a season with more than a few reasons to be thankful. What is the Dreamstime team thankful for, you ask? Our community. Each one of you makes up Dreamstime, and we strive to support the entire community. We listen when you tell us what you... continue reading
The idea of free images makes the budget minded sing and some artists cringe. How can it be a good idea to give away what you are trying to sell? On the one hand is the sanctity of the copyright. On the other is the spirit of the Internet and an age-old marketing ploy: the free sampleWay back when in the dark ages of flight when planes were choked with cigarette smoke, everything was free…food, drinks and on every meal tray, a slim package of cigarettes provided for after meal enjoyment... continue reading
As the end of summer approaches, it’s time to capture as many summer themed images as possible. When the demand for this genre grows in early 2009, you’ll find yourself looking for a campsite or outdoor pool that isn’t covered in snow.Over six million kids attend summer camp in the US. Many camps are basedaround learning a skill or a lifestyle issue. There are soccer camps, music camps, adventure camps, sailing camps, special needs camps, science camps, church camps and diet camps.Camp... continue reading
As a photographer you need to be the most focused of all spectators at sporting events not only to make the best images but to keep from getting into the action yourself. To see what happens when a photographer forgets where he is, go to this video before reading on.There are more examples of sports shots gone wrong at the end of this post. For now though, concentrate on getting the money shot without causing problems for yourself (lawsuits?) and others.TEAM SPORTS1. Note of caution:... continue reading
The world prepares to visit China in great numbers for the 2008 Olympics. Many visitors may be surprised at the extent of China’s expansion. According to Businessweek, “China will soon be home to the world's largest airport, the world's first fully sustainable city, and the world's highest outdoor observation deck, to name just a few of its innovative architectural feats”.Interest in this booming economic marvel will extend long after the Olympic torch is extinguished as will demand for... continue reading
Fresh out of ideas? Your creative meter stuck on zero? Got the late winter idea blahs?I recommend reading this. It’s rather long but hey, if you are stuck in a morass of boredom with your creative brain flat lining, what else do you have to do? Or you can go to YouTube for a shorter video reprise. Be warned though the video first comes off as a “just say no to all mind altering substances” but persist and you’ll get about 25 % of the jest of the full reading of the PDF text version.... continue reading
The most popular concepts in the top photographs from last year are happiness/love/family and determined business teams. Don’t drop everything to focus on kisses and bunches of business types. Statistics only tell part of any story. How many images would have been in the top seller list if the photographer hadn’t uploaded a dozen nearly similar ones, thus spreading the downloads over the entire dozen? On the other hand if an image is a great stock photo, even a cropped or almost identical image... continue reading
There are some composition tricks that apply to stock photography specifically. As more and more image use migrates to the web, the old stock photo rule of leaving room for type is becoming less significant. It is becoming replaced with approaches that enhance an image’s visibility at the thumbnail size and on web pages. Images with a square format gain maximum space in returned search results. The space allocated for each individual thumbnail is always large enough to allow for maximum width and... continue reading
The idea that we need to focus our lenses on people with disabilities and special needs came to me while reading Daryl’s Lang’s (PDNPulse) post last week. He mentioned a new book by the well-known portrait, celebrity and ad photographer, Richard Corman. Corman hasphotographed the Special Olympics since 1991. In his book, I Am Proud: The Athletes of Special Olympics, Corman has captured the athlete’s joy and successes. While Corman is famous for his photography of professional athletics, celebrities... continue reading
