Who won football’s Super Bowl? In my world there is more interest in what ads were more successful than news of the game itself. Which commercials resonated the most with the target audiences? Which ones garnered kudos from creatives at the top agencies? And which ones might give you some shooting ideas?Spend some time reviewing the ads and you’ll see that you can piggyback on the research that went into the themes and trends in the ads to come up with some ideas for yourself.I spent... continue reading

The world prepares to visit China in great numbers for the 2008 Olympics. Many visitors may be surprised at the extent of China’s expansion. It was like discovering a new universe: so many bones, so many muscles, so many blood vessels, so many nerves, so many organs. continue reading

Most e-book authors are not rich and famous and need their covers to attract readers. A cover design must give a clue to the content without giving away something the author wants the readers to discover in the reading process. I avoid artsy-fartsy modeling poses. I pick key character traits of the hero and examine hundreds of pictures looking for one that will motivate a reader to buy because the photo depicts that core of the person the reader will find in the story. I want photos that show the... continue reading

During my trip to visit 4 Chinese universities, I had the opportunity to visit the Terracotta Army near Xi'an, some 50 km outside the city. It is incredible to imagine that these terracotta soldiers date back to roughly 200 BC, and were only discovered as recent as 1974.It is very difficult to take high quality pictures there, because of the light and the place is really crowded (no space for a tripod). Please read the post on my photoblog to know more about... continue reading
