Gathering

Dining in is the new dining out. Whether the photos are of family or friends around a home cooked meal or a couple at home, the resulting images are increasingly important as budgets shrink and an emphasis on relationships increase in unsteady times. This is the time of year in the western world where more families dine together than at any other time of the year. One of the biggest holiday meals in the U.S. has just passed but most winter gatherings will take place over the next month. It can... continue reading

Industrial Strength

Sixty percent of world trade is comprised of heavy industry and businesses in the engineering sector.Images of oil and gas industries, shipbuilding, power plants, mining, and others such as steel, cement and iron fabrication are required for news and editorial uses especially now that the cost of raw materials is in the headlines daily. Annual reports are another final use of images of heavy industry. Every complex process involves hundreds of supplier of component parts and these companies need... continue reading

Around the House

It’s nearly spring cleanup/fix up time.I’m limiting my spring action to probing the back of the refrigerator to dislodge jars of forgotten spaghetti sauce. But for those that will spend in excess of 150 million dollars on home improvements this year in the US, it’s time to get to work. The do-it-yourself crowd spends zillions of dollars and has created a multitude of businesses on-line and on the street to sell everything from fixtures to classes in building additions. Websites, magazines... continue reading

Earn more money with God's Perspective

People always like photos with special angle. Certainly bird's-eye view is a very unique angle since only God has that perspective :-)1. Don't hesitate to buy a ticket to go up high. In many places, there are some top or high buildings that you could have the bird's view; but you have to buy a ticket to enter it and sometimes it is expensive. If you truly want to take some special photos you should pay for it, and it is worthy, the return will be good. I once visited Las Vegas,... continue reading

One year report. (Thoughts on the first 12 months with Dreamstime)

My first year on Dreamstime as a new photogrpaher and and I've realised just how quickly the time passes! I was a novice photographer when I joined and I think, to be fair, I'm still in that category, although I'd like to think that the photos have improved in this time.First approved photo. So that's a year, compressed into less than one minute of reading. For me, I enjoy photography very much and I wish I'd found it a lot sooner but there'... continue reading

Happy Belated Be Late for Something Day

Did you know that September 5th is (was?) “National Be Late for Something Day”?As a person who is impossibly early in a fashionably late-running world, I thought I would embrace the holiday to see if I could find the advantage that the rest of the populated planet seems to have found but that I just haven’t yet uncovered.    So, here it goes. After a day of exhaustive research, I can attest that the benefits to being late are …………Who am I kidding?I just can’t do it.... continue reading

1000 Uploads: Reflection on Joining the Dreamstime Community

What, at the time, seemed like every single day, my 8th Grade teacher would ask, "What did John Dewey say?”And we’d all reply, in unison, “You learn what you do!”Well, today I congratulate myself on 1000 uploads. I know. I know I said uploads and not sales but still, it’s a victory... at least to me. My acceptance ratio dipped pretty low at one point, but I’d like to think that as my acceptance ratio improves so does my photography. However, I still have images get... continue reading

Arriving at Dreamstime

“You can take moon pictures with it.” Said my friend. That sounded such a cool thing to do. I had never taken a photo of the moon.In fact, I had never even considered the possibility of taking a picture of the moon. For the previous eight years about 90% of the photos I had taken were wobbly one handed snaps of my son alongside associated toys, friends and relations. The other ten percent were indistinguishable blurs. They were all taken on my phone, at a time when phone cameras were not... continue reading

Learning every day

I have just passed the 800 images online milestone! I have enjoyed taking photo's over the last 11 months I've actively been uploading to Dreamstime and trying to improve my abilities whilst trying to add some inventiveness to some images. If you look through other site members portfolio's there are some fantastic photographs and also great inventiveness with illustrations etc.Taking photographs is enjoyable, disappointing when an image is technically not great but worth the time when an image... continue reading

Keywords

I recently used keywords for the first time and it was enlightening for the novice I am and needless to say I have several images that could have been categorized better in the past!! I would recommend anyone like myself to give it a go just to see the difference. I have often struggled with which categories are best so it's very helpful. As I have recently passed the 700 uploads mark i will add a recent image.  continue reading
