Shooting people is hard. Subjects who are not used to have their picture taken are usually uneasy about spending time with a photographer. Even people with some experience being photographed don't enjoy it that much. I feel that some discomfort is necessary to make the picture more interesting but from my experience the subjects usually relax after couple of minutes. One important element is the fact that people should trust that the photographer knows what he or she is doing. The subject should... continue reading

Many of us have photography as a hobby and also big commitments to our family activities. This often involves driving family members to sports practices, music lessons, appointments or other events when they need a ride and say "can you please pick me up in an hour".So, what to do with the hour? I could surf the net on my phone, go for coffee, or drive home and do a chore for 15 minutes and then drive back. Or?I decided to be a micro-explorer.With camera in tow, I decided to explore the... continue reading
Did you ever wonder how to capture the splendor of the night sky? Look no more! This shot is not difficult, it’s really just a matter of setting the stage. While planning your nocturnal escape, let me take you in the following lines through it step by step. First things first, we need to choose the location. Because of various factors of our modern life such as light pollution, stars are hard to spot in the city. The ideal location is one of total darkness. Such spot can easily be found using information... continue reading
There could be many reasons why we are here. I can assure you many are here because they desire to sell their photographs and make some extra cash.Having joined with that good intention, the reality on the ground is not what you initially envisaged. Sales are low. Not only low, they are frustrating. And you may be thinking what’s going on?I can bet you, you are not alone. One fact we all agree and which we need to remind ourselves is that Dreamstime LLC does not buy images. It’s... continue reading
I have always loved to capture sky, clouds, sun, moon, and stars... When I uploaded my sky images, I had some doubts whether they can be sold, especially because there are thousands of great sky images on DT already. But when I saw last week, there were back to back 5 sales of my sky-clouds images! This really reflected what other DT contributors have always said - "good work definitely pays at sometime".Here are my recently sold sky images:This one is the best of all:... continue reading
I have an account with Dreamstime since 2008. It is a long time and I don't have many photos to show for it.I love taking photos. It serves as a record of places I have visited and people I met. So I thought why not sign up and see if I can make some sales from something I love. I went through my collection and this photo of a lotus flower with a couple of bees was the first photo I uploaded. That was in August 2008. It was the one and only for a long time as I got busy looking after my... continue reading
Up until recently I had mainly taken photographs where I had most of the control over the elements - in that most of my subjects didn't move or there was one person or one animal and rarely a mix.I am currently completing a photography course and the topic choices for my current assignment were people, places or objects. As I had previously worked on places and objects (little movement in these topics) it was time to step out of my comfort zone and take the challenge - working with a person/people... continue reading

As a photographer, you’ll never stop learning. However, it is sometimes challenging to find new places or new people to learn from. That is doubly true if you're unsure where to find quality photographs. The Internet is filled with websites and galleries that are open to everyone – Flickr.com is one example. Because anyone can post images, you'll soon find that it isn't easy to sift the snapshots and amateur images from the works of art. So where do you turn to advance your knowledge... continue reading
