Two ways to use shallow DOF when posing groups

With eyes at or close to the same distance from camera to achieve equal focus on subjects. This gives each person equal importance to the image.Works well for families.Allow one to be in focus and the others to be out of focus.Combined with the composition of your photo, using diagonals or rule of thirds, etc, you allow the one to become the primary focus while the others fade into the background. So, there are my thoughts. Most of these images are not mine, but I thought... continue reading

Oh no, he's back!

I haven’t written a blog for a while now.Things have been rather hectic for the last month or so.The sad thing is that I haven’t had that much time to pursue any of my interests that actually make me feel alive. The days just fuse into each other in a mundane and seemingly never-ending routine that hungrily saps my vital life force, leaving me spent and resembling an empty shell of a body. The frustration of having to face perfect incarnations of “mindlessness” and “self-importance... continue reading

I'm grateful...

I have just started the people photography. It's still an 'undiscovered' area for me. Still lot of things to learn starting with proper lighting and finishing with helping model to establish a proper mood. And lot of issues in between. Now I would not like to discuss all the specific details that concern my way to make 'portraits'. I would just like to express my gratitude to two my models - Eugenia and Mikhail (in English they would be Jenny and Michael) - who were creative, friendful, ready for... continue reading

Candy girl

Our latest photo shoot came from the mind of a makeup artist on our team. Liora asked us many time to do candy fashion theme shoot. After some discussion, we decided to do a brightly colored make up with star shaped candy glued on the model and we used simple, but fun accessories like a big lollipop, candy cane and a ring pop. All of which came out beautifly, specially on a model like Sarah-Monica, who's really fashion oriented. For a background, we decided to try a new technique. Instead of using... continue reading

Portraits exhibition

Dear FriendsI was offered by the company (a hi-tech company) I work to make a photography exhibition of portraits of the company workers.Since I am not shooting portraits but landscapes and architecture debating whether I really accept the challenge. What else my only good lens is Tamron 17-50 f2.8 which is not ideal for portraits.I will ask your best advice Why do I have to accept the challenge (why not I have plenty). Thanks in advance, Yoav Sinai continue reading

Olympus 45mm f/1.8 lens review

I used to be seeking the perfect P&S - one that was good enough in quality to allow me to abandon the idea of carrying my dSLR for all but the most critical situations (naturally the dSLR is the first choice in the home or studio as weight and size are not factors).I've slowly come to the conclusion that there are too many disadvantages. It isn't that great shots can't be had from a small sensor camera with zoom, but the problem for me is that beyond scenics and travel photos,... continue reading

New portraits

Before two weeks, I made some photos for the one fashion designer - she makes steampunk and neovictorian clothing. It was really windy day, so we had some problems with holding reflector. But I am really satisfied with results. And some days later some portraits for the one make up artist. Both job were amazing and I am really grateful for model releases. :) continue reading

My favorite way to smooth skin quickly!

Imagenomic's Portraiture Plug-in, without a doubt, is one of the best new plug-ins I use.Imagenomic’s software provides every creative control I could want, but I’ve found the default settings so accurate that I end up tweaking them only on rare occasions. Usually, it’s one click and I’m done—it's that fast! The soft mask that Portraiture applies does not take away from the natural look of the model, yet it saves incredible amounts of time and that is what I am looking for,otherwise... continue reading

Self-advocacy and rejected images

Self-advocacy refers to an individual’s ability to effectively communicate, convey, negotiate or assert his or her own interests, desires, needs, and rights. It involves making informed decisions and taking responsibility for those decisions. (VanReusen et al., 1994)Over the past two years with DT, I've taken almost all of my rejections laying down, not complaining. However, recently I decided to stand up for my belief in the usefulness of my own images.I shoot mostly editorial type images.... continue reading
