Free Vacations to Exotic Places

Some years ago, I decided to go on vacation for a few weeks during the winter. I checked the internet and found many hotels but with terrible pictures. That gave me an idea.I picked a few hotels and E-mailed them my proposal. If they let me stay at their hotel for free, I would create a beautiful website for them, showing off all the best points of the hotel. In return, they would let me stay for FREE.Out of 5 hotels, 2 agreed!Next January I flew to my chosen destination and stayed at the... continue reading

Silent screams

I had a great time shooting Eri in the studio. She is a hugely expressive model and really easy to direct and work with. This image actually surprised me, when no noise came out! It was almost like my ears had stopped working, when they couldn't hear the scream...Hope you like it!  continue reading

It's Hip to be Square!

I know I'm dating myself when I say that the 80s pop band Huey Lewis and the News was right when they sang that it's hip to be square. When it comes to photography, I love the square format. It open up new and creative composition opportunities that a normal rectangle format doesn't offer. It is especially useful when you find yourself in a creative rut. Many of today's cameras offer a square format setting that you can choose so that you can compose your photos in the square format right in... continue reading

Two ways to use shallow DOF when posing groups

With eyes at or close to the same distance from camera to achieve equal focus on subjects. This gives each person equal importance to the image.Works well for families.Allow one to be in focus and the others to be out of focus.Combined with the composition of your photo, using diagonals or rule of thirds, etc, you allow the one to become the primary focus while the others fade into the background. So, there are my thoughts. Most of these images are not mine, but I thought... continue reading

My Regimen for A (Hopefully) Successful Photo Shoot

So a while back I blogged about taking engagement pictures and my fear of it being a complete failure. Due to weather we've had to postpone several times and this weekend happens to be the perfect time! So Sunday I'm heading out and I've made a few preparations I wanted to share with you all. I don't know if any of you do any of this or just wing it but this is the game plan thus far, and if anyone has any suggestions or advice, feel free to speak up!1. I don't do posed photos so I've made a list... continue reading

Content filter

I have 9 images of a rodeo event. This image, which is the first to be approved on April 19, has no views, while the other 8 images, which were approved 2 to 4 days later, have anywhere from 11 to 26 views. Upon further investigation, I found that the content filter of this image is YES, while the other images is NO. What is content filter? and how do I turn it off? Thanks,Gary continue reading

Adventures in baby photography

As photographers we've all been told we need to find our "niche". I've been trying very hard to find that "niche" for quite some time now.For a while I thought it was food, then I went through what I call my "puppy phase". (I wrote a couple of articles on that, here on the Dreamstime blog) That was a certainly a fun and profitable adventure. Then three months ago, I was asked to photograph a three month old boy. I'll be honest... continue reading

Wouldn' it be nice.....?

Would't it be nice for contributors if they would't know for what purpose a picture is downloaded? I would really appreciate if I would know in what magazine, book, paper, website or whatever a photo of me is used.Would't it be nice for the photographer if DT creates a possibility for the buyer/designer to let him know why/for what purpose he or she downloaded and used the picture? Of course that would be no obligation only a possibilty.I think contributors would really appreciate that.What'... continue reading
