Creating quality images

Quality: the standard of something as measured against other things of a similar kind; the degree of excellence of something.      It has taken a while for me to create quality in my images. All the usual elements that help achieve quality are education, experience, research, time, repetition, and a certain level of gear. Not necessary but extremely useful are tilt-shift lenses for still life photography.I guess this is obvious. If the quality of your image looks out of place when you... continue reading

Four niche sales in one week

Last week I was surprised by four niche sales of the city Zwolle, no subscriptions, fully paid. Most of you probably don't even know where Zwolle is located.Like most of you I have architectural pictures of London and Paris. Dreamstime has plenty of pictures of these famous cities. Resulting in very few sales for me. I sell more pictures of for example Beijing and Machu Picchu. The reason is probably that it is more difficult to go there. The same is true for Zwolle, few people... continue reading

Rules of the supermarket

This article is not about supermarkets. It’s about stock photography and how to sell more images. But first, a few words about supermarkets:  A century old business modelThe concept of supermarket, in its various forms, appeared about a hundred years ago. It generally consists in a self-service grocery store, where shelves are stocked at night, so the customers can choose the goods by themselves the following day, add them to a cart and pay for them at the exit. Seems familiar?The... continue reading

Acceptance percentage

I have just got my acceptance percentage up to 80% from a low of 57% the first month or two of uploading to Dreamstime. So for anyone new my tip would be check your images carefully for blemishes and noise as a starting point and be a little selective. Now if I have any doubts about the quality I don't upload it. I'll add a couple of images from my latest uploads. Happy snapping :)   continue reading

Two months in

Hello everyone. It's been two months since joining dreamstime and it has just flown by. I've now had 40 photos approved and a small number refused but this has made me more careful, to think about the content to be uploaded and to persevere. There's a long way to go but it would be great to think I could produce photos of the quality that a great many of you have done. Who knows? I may never get there but it will be fun trying.  continue reading
