Ready, set, quit! Oh, if it were only that easy.Every year on the third Thursday in November, this year falling on the 16th, the American Cancer Society sponsors The Great American Smoke Out as a way to get people committed to living a tobacco free life. When the event first began in the early 1970’s, the message to smokers was to use a specific date to commit to quitting cold turkey.Since then, research has shown that a smoking addiction is an extremely tough one to break and... continue reading

Recently, I have added a lot of South Texas pictures, thanks in part to a trip my wife & I recently took down there with my sister. Now, for those unfamiliar, South Texas is...well, pretty much desolate, with oasis' of cities cropping up every now and again. There is Corpus Christi, a mecca for the tourists who love sun and surf, then Kingsville, with its world famous King Ranch & Santa Gertrudis cattle. Further on down is Laredo, Harlingen, and Brownsville. There are also other small towns like... continue reading
I have been a photographer for Dreamstime for 21 months. Each new milestone is exciting to me.Today, I made my 800th sale.I am so thankful to be able to sell my photos on here and each sale makes me want to work harder.I really am so thankful to every buyer who purchases my photos.I will post my last five sales with you. Here's my 800th sale - just in time for summer - Water Balloons: Another seasonal one - my 799th - mosquito on a dandelion. This post is written for newbies to simply relate some ofmy experiences with microstock. When you have difficulty sleeping may I recommend that you create images in your head with a view to capturing them in reality the next day. Soon you will fall asleep.Remember that many buyers are trying to illustrate an article in a newspaper or magazine .One day my wife brought home a large 'gold' key that was on the point of being thrown out by a charity shop.It immediately gave me the ideas( at... continue reading
the last monthes sales and especially revenue have fallen to one half to one third they used to be a year ago (and that due to uploading constantly and having more pictures online than ever before)... so I am thinking about cancelling exclusivity... what are your arguments for and against being exclusive to dreamstime?thanks for your advice... continue reading
Aljona is my photo session talisman. If she is involved into the process then the shooting will be successful. It doesn't matter from what side of the background is she standing. We got serious damage from mosquitos that day, but the result was worth it. continue reading
Some of my favourite photos sell really well and some I don't expect would do well also do well. Once I put up a photo of an Eland and it sold within a few days. That somebody out there wanted an Eland (a type of antelope) amazed me. Which is why I think we should never second guess the market. But here's my images that have not sold and to be honest I think people are missing out. Unrequited love so to speak. Now I delete some images that don't sell and after I while I think... continue reading
Reason One: Competition. DreamsTime is saturated with images and the deluge of new images covering the same topics continues to keep coming in. Multiply that over all the other stock agencies and there is little chance for your images to sell. At least often enough to make it worthwhile.Reason Two: Even if you produce top-notch stuff, the ever-growing and saturated database is going to prevent you from being discovered. Great keywording isn't going to matter. It would be considered fantastic placement... continue reading
With stunning part of the Andean landscape, colorful indigenous communities, some pretty decent flight connections, not to mention the stopping off point for the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador is one of the essential stops on the South American gringo-trail. Quito is the first (and often last!) stop for many - and is a great place to learn some Spanish, and often a launching pad for the Galapagos Islands. There is however a lot more to Ecuador. After being in one place for a while in Colombia, it felt... continue reading
