Booked Up

Writing recently about a decrease in vacation time among the world’s travelers for ’09, I have been keeping my eyes out for what the trend watchers think we will be doing in our downtime and what visual opportunities this will offer. I was surprised to learn that reading a book is gaining in popularity even as some publishers are in trouble. One publisher has launched a vid on YouTube for the Christmas season with celebrities stating why a book is a good gift. One says, “A book is a great gift... continue reading

Personal Best

Individual, recreational sports offer distraction from day to day stress and provide unlimited shooting opportunities. Engaging images of healthy activities and individuals competing with themselves to improve their skills and prowess are effective for a wide range of users of photography and illustration. A focused swimmer, bicyclist or climber evokes the notions of determination, success, failure, striving, achievement and health. Each of these words often accompanies a graphic in promotions, reviews... continue reading

Journey to my first Editorial License

It took up to five rejections to finally get one of my photo selected for Editorial License. Initially I was uploading macro shots, but none got selected. The reason was pretty simple. You need something special and newsworthy. Some of the rejections were the best photos I'd shot and I was pretty disheartened. I was wondering what it would take to get a photo approved for the Editorial License. Now I come from India. It is place with a diverse cultural identity. You may not believe it, but... continue reading

Fishing - peace of mind

Good day!I came to live in Ryazan, some time ago. And now I have a new hobby. If the working day was hard, sometimes I'm going to the river Oka. I'm always in the trunk is a small fishing rod and spatula. And all the psychological pressure, I can now very easily reset - fishing perch and other fish. One hour - it's so little. But after all this trouble returns calm and tranquility in the soul. You do not need alcohol or services of psychologists. Only the rod in the trunk. continue reading

Imitation: Flattery or Violation?

How often have you looked at someone's work and thought you could do better? When I see something unique I admire the creator. Sometimes I attempt to spin the image into something different that reflects myself as the illustrator.Maybe it's the competitive spirit in me. For better or worse, I think there is value in reworking an image to be more unique or to provide extra value. However, sometimes in the stock world people will intentionally imitate an image down to the details. I guess the thought... continue reading

Rambling in Europe

Short Walk on a Long Pier

In East Texas, we're blessed with an abundance of lakes. This year, we've had plenty of rain and the lakes are full and thriving with life. Recently, I stopped by Lake Cherokee for a few photos. Almost by accident I took this shot of the pier and reflections in the lake.Always room for improvement, but I thought it turned out pretty good. continue reading
