One of the most confusing aspects for new contributors to stock photography is when and what type of release is required when submitting images to an online stock agency. Let’s deal with the Model Release first (and save the Property Release for later). The simple answer to this question is ALWAYS obtain a model release if possible. The more complete answer is that a valid Model Release is required for all images in commercial applications when there are recognizable people present. Now... continue reading

Customers aren't just looking for high fashion models. Many customers are looking for real people doing real things. I would consider myself more of a real life photographer. I don't pay my models usually, except for a few which I'll talk about later. This article is about how I get models and how I work with them and what seems to be selling. I have much to learn, but will share what I have learned as a newer photographer with Dreamstime. For this photo of the police officer woman,... continue reading
I’m always excited to notice if my photographs have been viewed – and more so if one is purchased. Predominantly interested in the science behind landscapes and nature, I don't often have models in my images – though I have used them. I don’t pay my models. So far, the thought and conviviality over ‘a sell’ has been enough of an enticement to keep them interested in participating with me in this, my new hobby. The running joke and discussion we have is that if a photograph of... continue reading
Anytime a friend asks me for a help, I say "YES, but you know, could you give me a favor ...? That way I have created several very cooperative models. For example this guy needed to borrow a drilling machine: And this one was very cold at a garden party, so I had offered him to share a blanket: However, the best models are, of course, children. Give them something to eat, and suddenly you have got a very willing coworker :-) continue reading
Hi everyone,Thought I would share my hints with you about how I build up model releases for my photos , especially photos that I take on the street, beach or whereever of virtual strangers.Let's take the beach for a perfect setting. If I plan a day at the beach, when packing my camera bag, I always include at least half a dozen Dreamstime model release forms, as I know that while I am there, I am going to snap off some wonderful photos of strangers enjoying the day, as much as we are.So,... continue reading
Welcome to Dreamstime. A strange world where you could earn money for the photos that you take. You may be asking yourself, "What is a commercial image and how do I get a submitted file approved through Dreamstime?".Well I am still learning myself. When I first started my profile I thought, I have thousands of photos on my computer. Some of those must be good for this site.Out of the first hundred photos, only about 25 were accepted. This gave me a rating of around 25% and cut my... continue reading
I'm just starting out at Dreamstime and it is my first microstock experience.I have nine images that have been accepted so far!I have been analyzing the images that have been accepted and rejected and I think it has already had a positive effect on my photography.I'm thinking about learning how to use electronic model and property releases.I feel a bit intimidated by the thought of approaching people with a release but I have people and pet images I would like to upload, so any advice on which... continue reading
As I noticed, there is only 1 MR needed here (for 1 model). When you shoot more times (different days) with the same model, do you sign every time MR? Or may I use same form for the whole year (specific) year..? (only once signed at the beginning)Thanks.Vašek continue reading
I wish when I started here as a newbie that I understood the answer to this question. I didn't know for a long timeabout Editorial pictures. It certainly slowed me down trying to avoid getting people in my images.Clearly you cannot run after the Queen or Prime Minister and ask , ' please sign here ' on a contract form !At events like agricultural shows, highland games, lectures by VIPs you can take pictures which need no model release. You aren't allowed to manipulate the images obtained at... continue reading
Hey everybody out there and specially newbie like me who have just started out and feel confused what to upload and what not. Few months ago I visited to a cultural festival at Surajkund Faridabad Haryana in India. I shot lots of artists performing their traditional arts and I even liked those images but they could not see the light of the day and most went into oblivion of my HDD, as I was not having the MR for them. But one day this thought came to me that if I do not have MR for my all those images,... continue reading
