Stairs in our little heavenOne island. One inlet. One beach. One path. One house. Combined create our heaven. The space and time of our childhood and most beautiful memories we share. My family and I. On our island. On our beach. In our house. It is a small house, summer house. All made by our father’s hands. All made by our mum’s faith. All made by my sister’s and mine love. Whole is circled with stairs. Stairs made of rock that my parents gathered around the house. Rock and sand. Each gently... continue reading

Got an email from DT today with my first photo apporoved. Gave me a little thrill, but, not allowing myself to get too carried away. After all, it was just a photo of some rocks.I actually had to go to Scotland from Australia to take that photo. And it was around 40 years ago that I was at the same place, (Findhorn Bay), where I first saw the stony beach around a bay that empties at low tide.Naturally, the buyer, if there ever is one, doesnt know that, nor the memories and emotions that go with... continue reading
A friend of mine had a rock in his dirt driveway that was about two feet in diameter. His sons decided that the rock needed to be taken out of the driveway so they started digging the dirt out around it. To their surprise, the rock kept getting bigger in diameter and ended up being three feet in diameter and about a foot thick. One of his sons said, “Let’s hook up the Model A and try and pull it out of the ground, there is no way we can lift it out.”So they dug under the middle of the rock... continue reading

I am going to talk more about technique. The reason both these photos work is the shadows. . I try to think about how they would look on a wall before I pressed the shutter button. The rock makes the second photo. In the albums there is on large rock toward the lower center that sits just of the road. It sits too low andgets cropped off when it is put in the blog. Any way look carefully and you will noticethe shadows coverthe background of the photos making both are look farther... continue reading
Many of our images we do in more of a “job” mind set. “Today I’m going to shoot tomatoes.” But some of them are spontaneous and have more meaning behind them so we are extra touched when they sell. Here is the story behind this image.I had just lost my job, and to top it off the boss, who we trusted for years, managed to talk us in to living off of our savings and working and extra two months without pay on the promise that he had funding coming in and would make it up to us,... continue reading
