Rome through the eyes of a Roman

Being an expat, has positives and negatives sides. One of the positives sides is that when you go back to your home town (in my case, Rome), you see it with different eyes. You are not a tourist, but at the same time you are not the person you were, when you lived there. You also see how it changes. This always gives me mixed feelings. One of these feelings is, I want to "rediscover" it. So, these few days I can spend in my beautiful home town, usually I take the scooter and together with my father,... continue reading

The weather in Rome was gorgeous in late October for some wonderful photography. There are so many photos available from Rome so I tried to add a few that aren't well covered. The following detail shows 1800 years of erosion. I joined DT two months ago and am on my way to reaching some goals.Merry Xmas to all my fellow DTers. continue reading

Spiritual hub

A beauty that had people crying inside, as they made their pilgrimage to the church described as holiest of Catholic shrines. Built from 1506 to 1626, with no cranes! It still dominates the skyline of Rome, as part of the Vatican City sovereign jurisdiction.Amazing design that competes with the beauty of nature.   continue reading

I was fortunate to celebrate my 40th birthday in Rome.A clever wife who knows better than me what's good, convinced me that we shall leave the kids behind and fly there. Rome is ancient and yet very vibrant. Rome is a shortcut for Rom(e)ance, with its pretty streets covered with cobblestones and meandering like snakes around the main boulevards. Holy places and ancient ruins and very modern people who go out to work looking like they go straight to the catwalk. If you haven't been... continue reading

Giant Oculus, Pantheon, Rome

Some call it the best preserved ancient Roman monument, the almost 2000 year old Pantheon in Rome.A building of breathtaking beauty and intelligent design. It has the largest unsupported concrete dome until today! It is very impressive to see the sunlight entering the building via the 7,8 meter wide 'Oculus' in the roof. Original build as temple for all gods by emperor Hadrian in 120 AD. continue reading
