Film sets are a health and safety inspector’s nightmare. They are often built as quickly as possible, with potentially dangerous stunts going on and lots of things happening in the area constantly, leading to unpredictable situations. However, the examples we have chosen took this specialized insanity to the next level, though to be fair to some of them the problems were not always of their own making. From flash floods destroying sets to locals attacking the crew with bows and arrows, we have created... continue reading

Since moving to California seven years ago it has been my mission to visit as much of the coastline as possible.“Every weekend’s a vacation!”My love for the beach, the ocean, the birds and fish that live there, the flowers and plants that grow there, and the sun that rises and sets there, has enticed me to walk barefoot in the sand, splash in the waves, share my picnic with the birds, relax with the yellow and orange skies, and to stop and smell the roses. But to be able to capture it all... continue reading

He is a professional dog trainer and breeder, and I wanted pictures for my stock portfolio, so it was a win-win for both of us.Usually, people are happy to help. this guy isn't even a friend, but when I approached... continue reading
Managing image assets has become a necessary task for photographers, and is even a more daunting task for illustrators and designers. Here I'll talk about some things on the photo end of things, in particular my ruthless photo selection and editing. For my photo work, things for me are relatively simple. I keep a master file bin with raw camera files separated into folders with date of shoot and subject. The files are renamed and given a unique ID. Part of what streamlines my photo work is that... continue reading
EarlierI mentioned this topic.I just like to add a few more ideas. This is applicable for processing of landscape scenes particularly for sunsets. At sunset the colour balance is rather complex. The shadows tend to be cold and the highlights, warm. (It is the same for sunrise too.)And I exploit this fact with natural masks as follows.I create a Multiply blending layer and masked it with the "natural" Blue mask (Ctrl-3).(And the best way to create a blending layer, is to insert... continue reading
