The small stuff

My favourite type of photography is almost certainly macro. Ideally, the type of macro that involves chasing small insects around to no avail in summertime, although I do also have a soft spot for grovelling around in decaying leaves in autumn in order to photograph fungi. When people hear of (or, even worse, witness) my predilection for adopting unseemly poses in public places they often, perfectly reasonably, ask what caused me to embrace this strange behaviour pattern. It’s a fair... continue reading

Using a smaller camera, and using it often.

It’s been over a year since my last blog post, so I guess it’s time.I’ve continued to take my camera most everywhere I go - a small, quality point and shoot fits nicely in my purse. (I use the Panasonic DMC-LX3.) Shopping? Snap a photo. Traveling? Catch that scenery! Out for a walk? What is that bug (or bird or snake or plant?) I was inspired by another photographer’s blog at Digital Photography School:http://digital-photography-school.com/do-you-wear-a-camera/If you don... continue reading

Going Small

Well I wanted to share a couple of things with you all. First off I have broke the 200 images and am well on my way to breaking 300!Secondly I wanted to share a little bit about the use of extenders and turning your regular lenses into macro lenses for 5$ All these images of bees and bugs where taken with a 18-55mm lens and a 5$ attachment on amazon. However the trick is in lighting your subjects with flash. Using no more than a white piece of paper and a speed light flash on... continue reading

One small step

Tuesday, the 19th seemed to be just like any other day, with some lecture, papers, and all the fun stuff that comes with university life. But that morning was also the first time I have ever had a sale on dreamstime! It was only for 58 cents, at an "extrasmall" resolution. Apparently, the buyer did not even search for any keywords, as the entry was marked as n/a. I have no idea who bought it, or what they intend to do with this image, but I'm sure it will be put to good use! I actually like... continue reading

Basic camera equipment for a small indoor event shoot assignment.

If you ever wondered if you need to have plenty of high end camera gears for a small to moderate indoor event function (e.g a solemnization or small wedding) then I will like to share some in the list according to my past working experiences.(1)The camera body.A full frame body will be good but if you are new, running low on the money or just hesitant about jumping into large investments on equipment yet, a cropped body camera (like the Nikon D90) will still do the job in delivering A4 or 4"... continue reading

Tips for creating sunstar images

In photography, sunstars are images of either the sun or a bright light source like a sodium vapour lamp, which appears as pointed star shapes. One such image of a light house at sunset is shown here. Sunstars can be created by using a small aperture of the lens. The pointed lines are a result of diffraction, which is generally hated in the photography community. However, if diffraction is used correctly, it can create interesting sunstars with very low loss in image sharpness (when viewed... continue reading
