Every photographer, or shall I say photography hobbyist, at some point of their life wants to take pictures of nature and wildlife that is contained within it. They all have seen gorgeous shots of wild bears, wolfs, eagles and all the others in National Geographic, and they dream of taking photos just like these. They go out into the woods for a walk carrying their camera and one or two zoom lenses hoping to take that perfect shot, until the reality hits. It is not that easy. In fact wildlife photography... continue reading

Did you know that September 5th is (was?) “National Be Late for Something Day”?As a person who is impossibly early in a fashionably late-running world, I thought I would embrace the holiday to see if I could find the advantage that the rest of the populated planet seems to have found but that I just haven’t yet uncovered. So, here it goes. After a day of exhaustive research, I can attest that the benefits to being late are …………Who am I kidding?I just can’t do it.... continue reading
Well, it's about time that I showed you another five photos that I think stand out from the crowd. This group differs from the previous ones just a little, as it has a black and white photo included. Black and white tends to get a little overlooked these days but can be very striking when done well. One other thing about these photos is that they don't really need any further explanation, they speak for themselves. Of course, this is just my opinion and we all have different tastes and perceptions.... continue reading
Some of you might have seen an earlier blog about photos that, for me, stood out in some way. Bettina (Bwagner656) pointed out that the majority had contrasting colours, which, when I looked back was right and yet at the time of posting, I hadn't realised. Since then, when I've been out with the camera, I've tried to look for colourful contrasts and so far, it's been more difficult than I thought. I'm still quite new to photography, so it's a case of trying to look at everything differently and not... continue reading
Being fairly new to photography, I look at a great many photos of on Dreamstime, to try and learn from different people, some of them also beginners but also those that have thousands of uploads (and downloads too)Sometimes, I'll see a photo and it immediately say's "Yes" to me because it has that certain something. I know others will not agree with these choices but it's about that initial reaction. Anyway, here are some of those photos that (to me) have made me think "I wish I'd taken that"... continue reading
I returned to stock photography recently after a five year break. I have taken note of the images that continued to sell while others have gone dormant.Location photos seem to be eternally popular and generally don't have a 'time-stamp' on them visually as much as a photo containing a person will, due to changes in styles over the years. For instance, photos of this model taken around 2008 haven't sold since 2011 and are looking dated: While photos of Dallas, such... continue reading
I don't know about you, but photography is something that gives me real pleasure. It's nearly always on my mind: planning the next project; scoping out new places to shoot; reading as much as I can about new techniques; appreciating other photographers' work; checking out the window to assess the light; scouring a well known auction site to look for my next longed-for piece of equipment. But, as is true for many of us, the "day job" can be a major obstacle to growing my photography portfolio.... continue reading
I saw a blog post recently about hummingbirds and wanted to share a little insight onto the work that goes on behind capturing these kinds of images. Its now nighttime, the only part of the day I can seem to get away from the camera, edit photographs and go over my adventures and share them with all of you!Early morning start as the sun peaks the hillside and breaks the shadow of the mountain. A morning without coffee is not a good morning at all, with cup in hand and camera equipment over... continue reading
I'm hoping to start a new series on my blog called "Trying Something New" to document new techniques or areas of focus in my photography in an attempt to improve my skills and keep learning. This week: concept photography.Anyone who gives a quick glance through my portfolio will notice an abundance of landscape and travel (and food) shots. What can I say, those are my interests!I do know that stock photography is overwhelmingly saturated with these types of photos and concept photos or photos... continue reading
I've decided to write a little story. Yes this is a small thing and not worth mentioning to some but it means a lot to me because it confirms something i always believed in!If you believe in something and that voice inside you tells you this must be right, don't hesitate fight for it!Whenever you fell, get up and do it better next time and keep on going until you succeed!
