As photographers, we all know that the sunrise action happens during a short period of time when the sun comes up. During the daylight hours, we scout what we think will be great locations. The next step being the early rise out of bed in the morning. Seems pretty simple, right?Well, if these locations are in a natural setting, there's a number of common sense items you should consider beyond camera settings and all the money you'll make off your images...Pack a flashlight! You scouted the... continue reading

When you are on the road for whatever reason, if somebody tells you that you need to get up early to catch the golden hour lighting, your first reaction probably will be no way. However, as difficult as it sounds, I find it very rewarding to get up early either to shoot the sunrise, or just to shoot whatever objects in the soft morning light. One example is when I was on a business trip to San Francisco. Coming from the east coast, I knew I would have suffered from 3-hour jet lag. So, instead... continue reading
Many times, sunsets and sunrises are captured spontaneously by either professional photographers or amateurs. But the way sun appears and fades below the horizon is a stunning performance that nature offers us every day in so many different ways and it's a pity not to plan the perfect shooting of such miracles. We've asked some of our professional contributors who've been chasing the sun over the years to share with us their stories and passion for sunsets and sunrises. Thank you,... continue reading
This has been quite a difficult winter for good outdoor images, too many days with poor weather conditions for good photography. We've had many windy dull days which makes outdoor photography that bit more difficult. Opportunities still present themselves if you are lucky and look for them. Getting up early to catch a good sunrise on one of the better mornings can definitely be worth it as the following image shows.I caught the right day with this image as the following day there were severe... continue reading

Since starting to load images onto Dreamstime last year I have learned a lot from knowing almost nothing about taking a good photo.Taking pictures in RAW, don't over edit (easy to do), always check images enlarged 100%, get used to using manual settings(trying this with mixed results) and as Penpossessed said in the blog last week..always take your camera!! I walked out of the house very early morning for work this week and as a second thought went back and got my camera..I would have missed... continue reading

I have always had a great attraction and love for sky. Interestingly, my first sale on DT also is an image of sunrays (crepuscular rays) coming through clouds... When talking about sky, sunrises and sunsets are always special. At these times, the sky is filled with different colors, and wonderful patterns are created in sky, depending upon arrangement of clouds. This one is captured a few minutes before sunrise, at Promenade Beach, Puducherry, India... "Halo" is an interesting... continue reading
