While in New York City last week for PhotoPlus Expo and the PACA (Picture Archive Council of America) International Conference, I attended a panel comprised of ‘Microstock SuperStars” moderated by PDN’s Daryl Lang. I heard some words of wisdom from the panel members that I thought might be useful to many of you.Panel member Yuri Arcurs emphasized the importance of building your brand within the overall site. He offered that an important aspect of his success is a consistent and identifiable... continue reading

My adventure in photography getting a bit more wider since I accepted the truth that I have the obligation of carrying a camera with me where ever I go. This is relatively freeing because I don't have to make plans to go out shooting anymore - since I have my camera with me I'm always out shooting when I go out. This makes possible to me to take photography inside of grocery stores in the small town I'm living. Best part of living in a place like this that people are (at least some... continue reading
A friend of mine and I stopped in Grand Marais and we walked out to Artists Point to take some pictures. Lake Superior was dead calm, not a ripple. I had never seen the big lake that still. We were skipping some stones and trying to take photos and videos of the stones skipping. My friend was laughing so hard because when she tried to skip stones they just went down into the water and didn’t skip.It was a beautiful evening to just be out and enjoy the sunset. While we were driving to the motel... continue reading
What’s up with a Fireplace on the top of Day Hill?On a beautiful October day in 2014 I hiked up to the top of Day Hill which is in Split Rock State Park. That was the fourth time I had visited this beautiful place. I learned about Day Hill from a friend years ago when we were talking about places to see on the north shore of Lake Superior. He asked me if I had ever parked along the highway and walked up a hill that had a huge stone fireplace built on top of it. The next time I was visiting... continue reading

We all have to wait patiently for our images to be reviewed. I had just finished uploading and submitting my images for admin approval (or rejection) when I noticed the images had been given approximately 17 hours before reviewing. Great, excellent, I've never had such few hours stated it's usually at least 56 hours before a review for me. So I just went and checked in my pending file and nearly fell off my chair! 3 of the images I had just submitted were already under review - amazing! Is this the... continue reading
After a trip to Abu Dhabi and Dubai in United Arab Emirates in November I started to upload some of the photos I took there. The first sale, Burj al Arab in Dubai came very fast, just one or two views and then a sale and then it went on. Not many but superfast sales. These four sold within one or two views:I also got one of the images accepted as assignment - Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi. That one also sold within hours after one or two views.A new experience,... continue reading
It happened on October 29, 2012.The sound of the wind coming from the darkness outside was deafening and then the power went out. They stayed in the basement of their home, praying that no trees fell on it.In the distance, the skies lit up as power transformers literally caught on fire and blew up around the neighborhood.Theyjust wanted to fall asleep and have it all be over, but in racing minds were the “what ifs.”As in, how would they get out of there if they had to, how would anyone... continue reading
