10 Things You Can Shoot Right Now

10 Things You Can Shoot Right NowLike many other photographers, I’ve had slumps when I felt like I simply ran out of things to shoot. Being in the business of selling stock photos, I realize that having a vast portfolio is key to success. So these ‘shooting slumps’ can be very discouraging. Also, discouraging is seeing some of the spectacular images that other stock photographers are uploading. Seeing magnificent destinations in faraway lands and sleek business concept images with good looking... continue reading

A few things that I've learned so far from working with models for my editorial photos

Hello, everybody! The majority of my editorial stock photos are about the people that I have found interesting for some reason. I'm specialised in candid photography, which means that I photograph people when they don't know that I'm doing it. I always portray them in public places where photography is allowed. However, sometimes I think that I would portray somebody at his/her best only if he/she knows that I'm photographing him/her.In this case, my main rules are three:1)... continue reading

Looking at things a different way

I was lucky enough to have a day off from work a few days ago, (as this is not yet a full time job for me yet) and decide to go somewhere local with my camera and see what i could find.I went to a park in Solihull, which i had been to many times before, but never with my camera. There i discovered in the woods down a little road a beautiful little church.Yes i had seen the signs for it before but had never bothered to walk down there. However after having my first sale, i tend to take my camera... continue reading

The best things about frogfish

I think it's safe to say that the long lure frogfish, Antennarius multiocellatus, is not classically beautiful. However, they have loads of character and are, I would argue, so comical in form and behaviour as to make them, well, cute.Although highly camouflaged ambush predators and very hard to spot, they are often surprisingly brightly coloured and chose oddly contrasting backgrounds on which sit and wait for their prey. They also can't swim very well, as their pectoral and ventral fins are... continue reading

Things I learn while shooting for stock - Part 1: out on the streets

When I first handled a digital camera, I did not know to surf the internet for information on camera operations, nor how to look for information on understanding the concepts and relations between shutter speed, aperture and ISO. The internet wasn't saturated with such information back then. It was 10 years and more long time ago.Even when I got my first DSLR, making full use of the camera's setting was alien to me too. I had joined group outings to shoot photos of people but that wasn't fruitful... continue reading

Things to see and do in Juneau, Alaska

It was a cold morning; colder than I’ve ever experienced before. I was standing, waiting in line with a few members of my family (my parents and my brother-in-law) all of us ready, dressed for cold and with special footwear that goes over our boots to help us walk better up where we where headed. Today would be a day for new experiences, new adventures and new memories. The helicopter lands and we go in; the pilot runs his pre-flight check while telling us the safety instructions and... continue reading
