Thinking like a Stock Photographer : Thoughts from the Edge

I've been thinking about my content and photo projects a lot recently. I'm usually pretty busy... I have a full time day job, a girlfriend, I shoot bands, and like everyone else, I'm swamped with a million little things. This is NOT a complaint. It just means I have to really work hard to make the effort for all the stock photo stuff in my life. You have to really want to do stock photography. It's rarely glamourous. It's often tedious. There's keywording, editing, time in lightroom, time spent... continue reading

Thinking ahead

Winter is not over yet but I like creative makers we should think for the next period. Spring comes earlier than we expect in the day of lovers. Shops are full of gorgeous illustrations with motivmy love hearts and flowers. For me it is very important this year.  With my girlfriend we are right to say that this day together try to be more than friends. This day is therefore also a great motivation to create something transmitted.   But of course, something of which I show in store aha I've been... continue reading

Milestones, Targets, Achievements, and some Wishful Thinking

I was going to wait for my 1 year Stock Photo anniversary to pass before posting this, but having recently reached my annual target for uploaded images this year, and passing a milestone I certainly didn't expect to reach so soon, I decided to write it now, I don't think there are any more reachable milestones in the next month and a bit unless I get a couple EL sales or Google do another mass image purchase.I'll start with a very satisfying announcement, a couple of months ago I was wondering... continue reading

Goose Feet and Thinking Outside the Box

It's fine to take the Post Card photographs, those beautiful scenes no one can resist and everyone takes. But it's especially fun to think outside the box and capture unique photographs. While photographing Canadian geese, I was fascinated by their huge, black webbed feet and was thinking how great I could swim if I had feet like those. Of course it would make buying shoes a challenge! This photograph is quirky, weird and captures attention.    Big, black webbed feet of the Canadian... continue reading

Trying new stuff. And it gets accepted.

When you have two kids and one of them is 6 (the other almost 2) you can get very creative in thinking and doing when it comes to getting ideas for shoots. Kids never sit still and there attention span isnt the biggest in the world. How do you make sure you let them sit still? You think outside of the box and create new stuff out of nothing. That is what I did with these pictures. I tried new stuff after an evening of playing with torches, flashes, bike rims, lights, gels and xmas decoration.... continue reading

Are you thinking Easter?

I got my first indication that EASTER is the holiday designers are now starting to work on.Remember you have to think ahead.Lead times are months.Bloggers might be using Thanksgiving images now but for printed items, ads, and other products, designers work months ahead of the event. This image of mine just sold:Hint - EASTER!Update:Another Easter sale today! continue reading

Thinking ahead...Halloween, Thanksgiving and even Christmas?

It seems like the summer season has just begun - cookouts, swimming, hiking, theme parks, gardening, vacations and just relaxing.Summer is here perhaps in our reality but for designers most are already working on fall and winter themes. One tip off was a recent trip to a craft store this past weekend found that they had Thanksgiving fabric and craft supplies out already! Now when do you think those products were designed?Probably a year and half before their intended use. Some recent sales... continue reading
