Don't Make it Too Easy

As a designer I have always attempted to get my message across in the most legible and eye-catching way. With text books and learning materials it was a given that the font had to be exceptionally readable, though that didn’t mean resorting to Comic Sans. So, it was with some surprise that I read that recent research indicates that hard-to-read-fonts promote better recall. This research was tested in schools and universities, presumably with participants who were competent readers. Apparently, the... continue reading

Why one person walking in front of a shop is the most profitable type of editorial

Sounds like a riddle, right? Well, that's because it is, in the context of which are the best-selling types of editorial images! Some of my best street editorial sellers have precisely been a person walking in front of a shop. Easy as cake. Why not just capture the shopfront without anybody?Adding people will often add a human context when said shop/business is the subject of an editorial piece. A single person, in my experience, works better than a group of people as it'... continue reading

Analyzing your own porfolio

Hi, guys.I joined Dreamstime from 2010. I can not say i made a fortune. Only $ 1.711.That is about $28,5/month. Hm... you can not feed your family from that money. Image & Text

As a graphic designer, when I am searching for images to use in my work, I am not satisfied unless I can find a photo that is high resolution and appropriate for print. I usually look for photos with dynamic color, interesting composition and quirky details. Unfortunately, these qualities do not always make for a good picture to use in design. At the moment, I am searching for images of interesting padlocks, doors, or keys. There are hundreds of these, but I can't seem to find the perfect one. Why?... continue reading
