How to Design Effective Ads for Mobile Devices

- First: The most important thing is the context where the Ad will be rendered. So, if the Ad is related with what the user is searching on the web, there will be better results. This can easily be done with technology using cookies (probably you have seen Ads for flights when you´ve been searching for a flight).- Second: Always use photos better than illustrations. In the photos if you show people it is better. And if people are smiling that is even better.- Don´t make special effect... continue reading

Park Entrance Fees: Actually A Benefit For Photographers?

Like a politician, on this topic, I tend to flip flop. My thoughts on user or entrance fees can go back and forth quickly, sometimes in the same sentence. Other photographers, amateur or professional, probably have strong opinions, as well. After all, photographing nature and landscapes involves a lot of time spent in parkland. But, what is the value of user fees, both for the land or attraction owner and the user? My opinion has swayed recently actually in favour of user and entrance fees to points... continue reading

Designing a Solid Call to Action

Let's tell a story. You have a site, you may even have several social media accounts and are religious about gaining followers, likes, page clicks but you don't see a great deal of growth over time. What does that mean? The most likely cause is a weak or nonexistent call to action.I've been a visual designer and have been in user experience for about 9 years. I've had to design ads, websites, software, etc. and all of them have one thing in common, they have users and an end... continue reading

My observations of being in stock photography about a year

A bit less than a year ago I decided to give stock photography a try as I have thousands and thousands photos sitting on my hard drive. Today I hit 1000 uploads and to celebrate that I decided to write a blog post on my observations. Why not, right?During this time I have realized that you have to submit much much more photos than that if you want to have decent sales provided you have started with stock photography recently. I have analysed some users and the ones that have high sales per image are... continue reading

Good Design for Improved User Experience

There's nothing more frustrating to a user, in my experience, than logging onto a website or e-commerce platform with poorly executed design. When target pages are difficult to locate, the text overcrowds the images (or vice versa), and the color scheme distracts from the offerings or services on the page, the user frequently decides to leave, even if he/she wants what you had to offer.Good design should optimize, and then maximize, the user experience.Whether the design is simple or complex... continue reading
