Media editors often penalize writers who use illustrations or photos in fiction, except, of course, in children’s books. In novels, they consider graphics support “unprofessional.”In the case of indie writers, I believe they are wrong. Here’s why.I was an editor at the Reader’s Digest for many years. We loved pictures with our stories, which were either original or condensed from established magazines. But the editors upstairs, in the condensed book department, shunned them.... continue reading
Since the dawn of human civilization, visual representations were the first choice when people needed to narrate stories, show emotions and depict facts. There are several ancient caves that prove to us, that visual imagery was probably the first form of non-verbal communication among early representatives of our kind.Push the fast forward button and get thousands of years into the future only to realize the same things: visual representation of facts and emotions is still the number... continue reading
I heard this from Jay Maisel centuries ago. And I'm trying to do it even its a hustle - since I carry my camera in a shoulder bag and advantage of living in a small town, no one approached to say "you can't take photos here!"... They mostly like to think that I'm a journalist. I've even took shots inside of grocery stores. But I feel that a range finder type of camera would be much better choice than a big heavy dSLR. On the other hand snapshots of course doesn't cut it. I'm... continue reading
When I first handled a digital camera, I did not know to surf the internet for information on camera operations, nor how to look for information on understanding the concepts and relations between shutter speed, aperture and ISO. The internet wasn't saturated with such information back then. It was 10 years and more long time ago.Even when I got my first DSLR, making full use of the camera's setting was alien to me too. I had joined group outings to shoot photos of people but that wasn't fruitful... continue reading

Three weeks ago I had the most satisfying photographic moment in my life. What started as a photo op (driving my parents in law, far away from my house... :-) ) turned into an amazing moment when all the elements for a good photo aligned. Unstable weather conditions had created dramatic skies, and diffused light, Good EVF and framelines, had helped me to concentrate on my cleanest composition to date.I am very proud of this image, very happy about it, and glad I had had the chance... continue reading
