Open Golf Championship 2012. Warning !

As I have admitted before I am addicted to photography and will go almost anywhere and pay whatever it takes to get interesting, preferably unique, images.Living in Inverness there has been publicity for some time about the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open Golf Championship and because today it was not raining I decided to go and get some great pictures of internationally celebrated Golfers. I thought this being Summertime play would go on until late evening. Wrong. Last tee off was said... continue reading

Take Warning Signs Seriously

Living on 55 acres banking a scenic river, with a 270 degree view of a mountain range, we get all kinds of people on our property.Rafters systematically pull up and cut across our pasture to get to the county road, dropping their popped rafts/tubes/floaties/beer bottles and more on our riverbank - and yes, taking the needed bathroom break in the grass (hello, go in the river).Drivers who ignore No Trespassing signs, unhook the gate, shoot out the lock, drive over the fence, whatever... continue reading

Warning Strike - How to feel like a Reporter

A few days ago there was a warning strike in Nuremberg, Germany, directly before the start of the new collective bargaining with the Metalworkers’ Employers’ Association. Around 3000 workers took part at this short and peaceful strike. What surprised me a lot: Obviously just because of my big camera I was treated by the guards like a reporter! I could climb the stage without any restrictions to make photos from a higher and better position - only a few steps besides the speakers from the trade... continue reading

Warning! Don't rely on your GPS in Vermont

One of my tricks for finding new places to photograph is to make a turn on some road I've never been on before and then rely on my GPS to bring me back home.Warning! If you try this in Vermont or any other rural area make sure you have plenty food, water, a spare tire, a cell phone and cash.In Vermont I've found that the GPS will direct you on to roads that any normal person would consider someone's driveway or an abandoned logging road, or perhaps even a hiking trail!This... continue reading

Warning: shopping scam website

I've been looking around the web for the best price for a Panasonic 20mm f1.7. I came across DVStage.com, an impressive looking site which purports to offer the lens at £148 - £122 pounds less than the next lowest price! Thinking this is probably too good to be true, I googled them and found lots of reports about their shady dealings. Typical is: this one.Hope this is helpful! continue reading

Heed The Warning

Every year, on the east end of the pond a pair of Red-winged Blackbirds nest. And this Spring was no exception. The male is extremely protective and aggressive. He does everything in his power to lure one away from the nesting site, from faking injury, to daring aerial maneuvers, to even physically attacking the intruder. But before I let it get that far, I stop and let him do his dance, flex his muscle, scream at me from the top of his lungs. I have heard it all before, but this time I had a camera.... continue reading

A Quick Word Of Warning

Security warning for Opera users !

Although most of us use Firefox or Internet Explorer there are some people using the Opera browser for their daily work. Enough for me to give a little advice.Regarding versions prior 9.64 Opera is prone to several vulnerabilities:1.) A vulnerability during the processing of JPEG images exists in Opera. This vulnerability could be exploited by an attacker to execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the logged on user.2.) A vulnerability exists in connection with the usage of plug-... continue reading
