On August 12-13 I made an attempt at photographing the Perseids Meteor shower just outside my condominium home in Washington DC.The Perseids Meteor shower is created by the earth's atmosphere colliding with ice and or dust particles from the comet Tuttle.Fortunately where I live it is fairly dark with limited lighting though better places to photograph the meteor shower are outside the city.My results were modest at best.I set up on the lawn outside my condo at about 3:00 AM or later... continue reading
This past month has been a great one as I consider myself still new to the game.I had a personal best in terms of sales, including my largest sale yet. This particular photo was a best-seller multiple times this month.Politics must be on everyone's mind. However, my most meaningful sale was one that I had today. It was my very first upload 5 years ago (after which I took a 4 year hiatus and returned to Dreamstime last year).Goes to show that persistence is rewarded and... continue reading
No doubt Pope Francis is the center of attention right now.I was fortunate enough to see the pope in Washington DC on 9/23/15 at D Street as well as Constitution Avenue as he made his way around the Ellipse. This is probably the biggest event to happen in Washington DC in a long time and not likely to happen again for many years.Big crowds assembled at the only non ticketed event to see the Pope. After a wait of about an hour or better the Pope finally arrived on D Street next to DAR Constitution... continue reading
After a long time since 1961 the Cuban Embassy in Washington DC has reopened. It was maintained in previous years but not allowed to fly the Cuban flag until July 20, 2015.I arrived at the Cuban embassy on 16th street in Washington DC in the afternoon and found many people and the media at the gate looking at the Cuban flag as well as the embassy itself. There were many signs protesting the blockade of cuba.It is remarkable that this event took place since Cuba almost started WWIII by installing... continue reading
Most people when they pass by Sam's Park and Shop in Northwest Cleveland Park of Washington DC, take little notice. It looks like just another shopping center but it does have historical significance.Sam's Park and Shop which was built in 1931 by Samuel J. Gorlitz was one of the first shopping centers in the United States with dedicated parking. This was a truly innovative concept back then. The shopping center was designed around the automobile.Beforehand cars parked on the curb of the street... continue reading
There is no better way to spend a cold January day than at the Washington DC Auto show at the Washington DC Convention center. The show runs from January 23 to February 1 every year. For $12 you can spend the entire day looking at cars inside the warm convention center.Automotive technology improves slightly each year with thenew models promising more power and better fuel economy.Concept cars are on display as well showing us the past and future.I always enjoy looking at the muscle cars... continue reading
Every year in December ambitious home owners in Virginia and Washington D.C. decorate their homes with many Christmas lights in a competition for the best decorated home. For many their electric bill for the month of December is at least $2000.00.Some displays are timed to music with changing lights.Others are static. All most all of these well decorated homes are in the suburbs with many in lonely secluded neighborhoods.Washington D.C. has only one well decorated home. All of the displays... continue reading
