Failures can be our great learning opportunities. We looked at Small Failures in Part I of this article, so let’s dive in here and tackle what we consider the Big or Fatal Failures.BIG FAILSSome problems can be a lot harder – but not always impossible - to correct in post processing software. These are best to understand first and try to avoid if possible.Chromatic aberration Ever look closely at object in your image and notice a purple ring? You made all the plans. Packed your computer bag with all the equipment you would need. Scoped out the perfect spot. Set up the shot taking into consideration the correct ISO, shutter speed, aperture, filters, remotes, tripod, etc., etc., etc.You get home to download your shoot to your computer with baited breath, sure you have “that one picture”, and discover the image was an epic fail. So you move it to the trash and carry on. Right? Not so fast. Stop a minute and look at your failed images.... continue reading
Finding someone to critique your work well is sometimes even harder than creating the work in the first place. If you’re like most people, you can’t rely on friends and family for unbiased critiques. They care for you, and therefore believe that everything you create is wonderful. If you have photographer friends, they may be too polite to say anything harsh or to really pick your images apart. That means that if you want real, honest and useful feedback on your work, you need to do... continue reading
Here we are, middle of the summer and my social circles are just bursting with pups everywhere. On top of this we have one of the warmest summers in ages, with just enough clouds to give an interesting background as well as blur the light very now and then. So what do I do in all of this? I lie at home knocked out completely. Such a perfect time for my health to be unhealthy...I've barely been able to leave the house and lawn for two weeks, with great inconvenience for my dogs I might add... But... continue reading
I've been asking myself this for a few months. Since April things started goind really bad here, but anyway I've never had great numbers on Dreamstime.I'm writing this beacuse I realized that today, in 24 hours, on another agency (a good agency, not a crappy one) I've had more sales than on DT in two MONTHS.One day vs two months. Is it all right for you? Not for me.I think there's something really wrong. Even low tiers perform much better in terms of sales than DT for me.If Dreamstime... continue reading
I suppose like your first kiss with a partner and your first day at work I don't think you will ever forget your first sale on Dreamstime.Similarly, like the most successful holiday you have ever had, the best piece of feedback you ever received or your biggest lottery win you will also have a soft spot for your best selling image. Then of course, there's the 'odd' ones. Those images that either sell when you were never really thought they would and those that don't sell when you thought... continue reading
Many blogs and message board postings are dedicated to tips, thoughts, tricks, comments and questions about improving portfolio sales. It seems that much of the mystery and frustration surrounding this topic results from the fact that just because a photo is impressive to you, your friends, family, fellow photographers, etc.. does not mean it is going to be a top selling stock image. Bummer right, well not necessarily. Here on dreamstime we have an incredible resource for improving the odds our... continue reading
When I'm going to draw images for Dt I always try to make something I like, and at the same time something that buyers will like. Useful illustrations, trying to enjoy myself and sell well.Sometimes I reach the goal, and sometimes really not.I care about ecology, I like nature, wild animals and good lifestyles. So I have created imageswith our planet earth, thinking about how to illustrate an article about environment or global warming.I have drawn these images just for Dt, and they have... continue reading
