First accepted image from new lens bought from first payout

A short while ago my balance went over the magic $100 for the first time and I was able to request a payout. I put the money towards a lens I have been wanting for some time, a Sigma 10-20mm zoom. This is the first image from that lens to be accepted on Dreamstime. Not content with just the one purchase I yesterday ordered a Nikon DX 40mm micro. That arrived this morning - I have not even opened the box yet. I bought that for the macro facility, and also for the lightness and image quality... continue reading

It's all about the children

As mentioned in a previous blog of mine, capturing the perfect images of children sometimes means letting kids behave naturally to catch some great candid shots.Think of children exploring a beach at low tide and the expressions on their faces as they find a starfish or a small crab. What a great image this would make..While I still believe candid shots of children create some truly memorable images, I have found that some pictures are better planned and posed (P&P) to correspond with the spring... continue reading

Traveling with the Canon 50mm 1.8|| (no zoom)

I would like to share something.... More then one year ago I traveled with some friends across Tanzania, Africa. I knew that this trip could get me a lot of nice images. However, I was affraid to take all my expensive camera equipment with me. This because people in Tanzania are not that rich compared to the country I live in, and I didn't want to give the people the motive to rob me or something like that. So I decided to only take my Canon EOS 400D body and the 50mm 1.8|| lens with me. Most Canon... continue reading

Review: 70-200 4L USM

I debated long and hard before buying this lense. It cost more than I had ever spent on glass before. And what I really wanted was the f2.8.But, if I went with the 2.8, I knew that I would need IS due to the weight of the lense and that added significantly to the cost.Plus, it was heavier to lug around and I love going outdoors and getting nature shots. So, I compromised and treated my self to the f4.To help you understand where my review might or might not fit your skill level and... continue reading

Why zooms rock (Part 2)

A while ago, I did a blog on prime lenses and their strengths - but there is still a case for zooms:1. When you can't move or can't get closer!People often refer to 'sneaker zoom' with prime lenses - meaning they walk closer or further to adjust framing. That is great if you have the option, but try moving a little closer when standing on the edge of the Grand Canyon - or even getting closer to get a photo at the kid's Christmas concert.2. To keep the camera sealed. In bad weather or... continue reading

Tripod

How important is a Tripod to a photographer ? This could be a question that would be in a mind until you have one. But the point is who is willing to carry a tripod already the camera bag with those lens and charger storage media and camera makes it heavy. But Wait ...What if your tripod is compact and could be fit in a small place. In that case this is really a very useful tool for any photographer to take along with. Usually while shooting for images with zoom a slightest shake might... continue reading

A different Zoom

I wanted to take a macro picture of a Christmas tinsel garland, made from a special material, and the auto focusing was not able to give me the desired level of clarity. But, as I think that each one of you stepped through this “revealing” process, you may consider this as my formal «Hello dear Dreamstime!»If it were a natural non-directional light the picture would have come out unclear and blurred, but because of the light of the flash which was reflected at a very small distance (less... continue reading

Canon EF 70-200 F/4 L USM Review

Canon 70-200 F/4 L is said to be one, if not THE, of the best lenses Canon ever produced. I've bought it a few days ago, and I can estabilish they talked well. This lens is AWESOME.The IS one is even better because of the stabilizer, but the optic scheme is the same.Let's view it in the detail.First, the body of this lens is white. Or should I say beije. Anyway, it's not the usual black. Every Canon L telephoto lens is white, and there's a reason: L lens all have a metal body, and if you use... continue reading
