Selling rights for 350 USD

As time goes on, equipment improves, DT database is growing and my older images don't appear on first hundred search pages, I decided to sell the rights of some of my images.

I like to create new images, my skills are improving, my taste is changing, world is changing... so I looked at my older images and thought they still could be useful for somebody or some projects, but if nobody don't find or see them, they just remain on the bottom of my portfolio.

So, I made a collection SR-EL 350 USD.

It contains photos taken with my first camera Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z10, and their maximum size is 2048x1536 pixels. There are some textures and backgrounds too. I'll be happy to give away the full exclusive ownership of those images for $350. First I thought on even a lower price, but DT don't allow lower prices than 350 USD.

You are welcome to look into my collection!

Ladykassie: that's another thing to consider, it's true. But I think I will wait and see what happens. I have P-EL licenses enabled for all my photos too. One sale here and some on other sites till now.
But anyway I want to concentrate on new photos and not think about older ones too much. :)

Creativei: it's a good point, but you never know until you try.
But improving keywords is a good idea. Thanks!

Another thing:

Print Usage (P-EL):
Physical Items for Resale: includes the right to use the photos for t-shirts, postcards, greeting cards, mugs, mousepads, posters, calendars, framed artwork that is to be sold to other customers for a maximum amount of 10,000 copies (applies as a total of each type of usage). If this amount is exceeded you need to acquire this license once again. The new license will provide you with the standard amount of copies.
This is an additional license to the rights included within the regular Royalty-Free license. Note that the other restrictions still apply.

350$ or 50$

Well its a good ides to sell the rights, but is there any buyer out there who will be willing to buy the exclusive rights. I'm in DT for almost year now, I haven't got a single inquiry to buy the rights. Some of my image has 2500 USD SR-EL. The company I work for is a advertise agency and publisher of five magazine, we never had a situation to buy the rights. Also I have a freelance company never my client wanted a exclusive rights image. Well good luck, but I have found some of my old image sell after I worked a little better and spend more time on key wording.

Yes, I'm selling rights to use my images exclusively anywhere the buyer wants to use. But you are right, it sounds logical, it could apply to 3D images as well. Well, to say the truth, it's hard for me to follow all those legal reasonings too.

Ladykassie: is it even if you create a model? not just modify and render? But then I guess you have to sell rights of a model. Is selling rights of a 3D model possible?

In 3D.. you are not allowed to sell, or touch any of the actual Geometries of that model.. that is sooooooooooo wrong..

but what gets me is that "selling the rights to any image.... well.. from what I understand you cant sell the rights unless you make it from scratch.. .. well.. I know you didn't make that guitar, the sky, apple, water, butterfly..
and your response would be, I am selling the image rights of the photo I caputred... and that is the same for me.. I am selling the rights to the image that I created, and rendered.

I just don't get it..

Yes, a year is too short. And if the portfolio is under 1000 photos, I don't think it's good to reduce the amount. Though donating some interesting photos can bring you more exposure. I personally think it's good to donate some. But it's everyone's decision. Some of my photos have been here on DT for 3 years now. And since there are thousands of nature shots, sunsets etc. I thought, I could make a discount sale for some of my photos. My other photos don't have SR-EL price lower than $2000. Just can't sell them cheaper. But I know that many photographers have lowest SR-EL price ($350) for all of their photos, so I don't expect a lot of sales with such price. When I started that "campaign" of mine, I thought I could set the lower price. But I can't. Anyway, I just want to improve my equipment, so I hope there will come at least some sales. :) Will see.

Maigi, I had wondered about getting rid of some of my older shots or making them free, but the last few months some have sold. Guess I'll wait a while longer, they've only been on here a little over a year.

Eti, those are my new and worn one. The rearmost served me for about 20 years. The new one is now replaced by camera... :)
Thank for good words, everyone! I'm not sure if $350 would be an attractive price, but who knows. Would love to complete my equipment.

Heathse: Most of photos that have sentimental value for me, have people on them, and those photos are at my home on my walls or I have printed them out and gave as a gift to others. Maybe only few of such images are in my portfolio too. But for the rest of my photos SR-EL price is way much higher. Those are ones I'm not very happy to sell, but if I sell the rights, I do it for a good price, what affords me some new equipment. Then the loss don't feel so painful.

Maigi

Creativei: yes, the price is 350 USD each. DT don't allow to set lower price. I think it has something to do with fair competition. But I hope I remain in frames of that. But I would love to have an opportunity for seasonal discount sales. :) I have donated some of my images for free downloads too, but I don't want to donate them all.

Selling the rights seems a reasonable thing to do especially if the shot isn't making you any money! Only a few of my pics have real sentimental value and they are not on DT! I wish you lots of sales!

Hi Maigi,
Well you mean each photo is 350 USD, yeah when our skills improve we need to update the portfolio, I prefer to donate few so when there are more free stuff people visit our portfolio more, anyways goodluck.

Ya know.. this is another thing that is very confusing for me..
You can sell the rights to a photography image, but can't sell the rights to a 3D rendered image..
