shoot without a tripod

When I am out and shoot so it often happens that I get a little shaky in the hands when

I shoot freehand without a tripod. So I found a lens with VC (Vibration Compensation). then it became my photos super good.

Award-winning high-performance telephoto lens!

My Canon 24-105mm with Image Stabilisation broke some time ago and for a while I had to shoot again with my old lenses. Only then did I realise how much help you get from technology to shoot good images.

I prefer not to use a tripod except for night shots even though I'm getting good also at shooting those without a tripod. Just lean against anything you can find (streetlight pole, a wall,...) and chances are you might just get away with a decent shot.

especially when you are as shaky as I am sometimes - when I use my 300mm freehand I really have to go to 1/1000 to get my images really sharp and even then I'm not on the totally safe side - so with the VC and an approx. 3 stops advantage I would be somewhere at 1/125 - but then I'm also dependant that my object isn't moving that quickly (same problem with tripod though) - but besides all this - the composition of a picture is with tripod also much easier - at least if you have the time to do so

yes it's true, but VC is great when you're shooting in the environment with a lot of people and can not use a tripod.

congratulations - good choice - Tamron has nice lenses for a good price - I have the 90mm macro and it's fantastic! I agree to Kikkerdirk's statement though to rather use a tripod when taking photos whenever possible - but it's also good to know to have VR for the many other situations when you have to react quick or when it's just too inconvenient....

I recently switched to VR lenses too... using nikon on my d5100. I do think it helps but I sure dont like the price of them!

I use a sigma 105mm macro. A beautiful sharp lens, I love it! High quality reasonable price!

Vibration compensation can help, but when possible it is best to shoot using a tripod. Especially when using a tele lens!
I've written an article about the use of a tripod.
You can read it here: How and when to use a tripod
Anyway nice picture!
